OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

swanzey3 - Me neither... What ship and div is your SR in?

Comment by diannep on August 7, 2013 at 11:06pm

txnavymom:  If his PIR date changed, he has to contact you. The fact you have not heard from him should mean he is still in his division in the 09/06 group.  My son was delayed a week when there and he called me right away (scripted call with Navy personnel beside him) to give me the new info.  When he was put back in a training group, he called again.  He actually was told originally that he would be asmoed for 2 weeks, so that was the PIR info he gave me then.  But a week later, he called to say he was now back to training and gave me yet another PIR group and division number this time---a week ahead of the original one he gave me.

So....I would continue to write him at his 09/06 address.  He may have been able to do the extra class without losing time with his division.

Hi, I'm new to this. Need some help trying to find my SR. He was PIR on 9-6, ship 13, Div 333. He's having to do an extra class we think. Last time we talked to him he was still trying to decide. That was over a week ago. Now we dont know where he is or what his PIR date is. We're guessing he's in this group now. I have checked with his recruiter but he doesnt know either. No change in his status that he can tell. What do I do now? I hope my SR will call and he is terrible about writting. Any advise????? thanks

I am looking for a mom of an SR from CA, in Div 341 and last name starting with W...Apparently our boys have become friends and they would both like for us to connect.  Please send me a message if this is YOU.
