Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I don't think we are going to fly. We are considering either driving or taking the train. (Amtrak)

Comment by diannep on August 7, 2013 at 8:01am: SCMOM: You can meet your new sailor at the airport when they are flying out. Most will fly out the day after PIR. They will be bussed to the airport in the wee hours of the morning--day after PIR. You can meet up with them any time....some will have flights out shortly after arriving there; others may be waiting alot longer, some even most of the day. Take ID for each of your group members to the airport in order to get the airlines gate passes. Your sailor will go with you to get the pass. Then you can wait at the gate until the plane departs.

No worries about finding your sailor out there. Yes, there will be tons of sailors but we have never heard of anyone not finding their sailor! They will be relaxing at the USO once they are checked in....the check-in process can take a couple of hours with so many sailors. I understand that family members are not allowed with the sailors until the check-in process is complete. Familes are kept over to the side. But no worries....your sailor will have flight info by PIR day so you will know how long they will be waiting there.

For those sailors flying out of OHare, and if their flights are very late in the day, a suggestion from a former member of these groups was to book a room at the airport Hilton (within the airport) at the day rate ($55) so that your family and your sailor have a place to rest and relax until flight time.
