~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I have been ok with this for a couple of weeks. I woke up this morning and someone in a recylce/give things away for free group that I am a member of is offering a free bike for a teenaged boy and I immediately thought about replacing SR's bike. Then I immediately remembered he is not here. Then I immediately started crying. Does this get better as time goes on? Or easier? He and I were soooo close. (being a single mom for many years will do that) /sigh I suppose I just soldier on.
punk95: Southwest seems to offer the best deals in airfare and they fly into both Milwaukee (45 min to GL) and Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL). The 'no change fee' is huge....especially since we had to change our reservations when my son was there and delayed a week (and we weren't with Southwest so paid a change fee....grrrrr!)---so it does happen to some SRs. The 2 bags checking for free is a huge bonus! That way, people can take a suitcase with their sailor's "things" in it to see what he/she may want to take with them to A School (they can't take much, but they can take a few things). You can return with the extras....for free! :-)
I was told that they take the seats that other recruits don't use and distribute them to those that would like more. Is this not true?
The good news is that the PIR ceremony is now "livestreamed" over the internet. So if you take extras up for PIR, they can remain at the hotel with their computers and watch the ceremony online as you see it live! Not as good as being there, but the next best thing! No one will be allowed on any part of RTC to wait for sailors/family if their name is not on the list. This is strictly enforced.
Just another note: You will not be allowed extra guests for PIR (once RTC posts the number). Prior to January of this year, "extras" usually got in with proper ID. This changed in January 2013 and absolutely no extras will be allowed in now, including active duty/retired military (with ID) who formerly could get in without being on the lists. All 3 yrs old and up must be on the guest list with proper ID.

Even if some of the SRs put in number of guests allowed in the form letter, this can change when RTC posts the guest allowance. It has happened in previous groups. We have to wait for RTC to post the number of divisions in this group which determines the number of guests. So don't worry about it yet. Hopefully they will post this next week sometime.
ottershort: Your SR will know the password. Write and ask your SR for it.
Rrecruiters do not have access to the form letters sent by your SRs. These are sent directly from RTC, courtesy of your SR. If you are missing any info in the form letters, write to your SRs and ask for it. They are the only ones who can provide it.
Navy Lodge was recently renovated and we understand looks good. We have nothing but good reports from them. Very close to RTC (about a mile).
CatMom, one of your N4Moms veterans on here, stayed at Holiday Inn Express and said it was great!
We stayed at Residence Inn and can recommend that one too. Courtyard Inn and Springhill Suites are the other two we have had great reports on, as well as Navy Lodge.
