Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

He may still call as I'm sure they have access to phones by division, as they certainly don't have hundreds of phones for all SR's to call at same time. I really hope all 'loved ones' get to talk to their SR today...it has helped my spirit tremendously!

My son also mentioned they will have time to write letters tomorrow. And, he was "looking forward to polishing his boots"! If I hadn't heard him say it, I never would have believed those words came from my son!

Comment by Andrewsmom on July 27, 2013 at 11:57am: We just talked to our son too!!! So GREAT to hear his voice and how well he's doing! He's in Ship 11 Div 346 and many were making calls. They haven't rec'd any mail yet. He even likes the food, just wishes they had more time to eat! :) Keep those phones handy and have a great day!

My phone was downstairs and my niece wasn't sure she should answer it....I am beyond disappointed and he sounded so disappointed I didn't answer. I do know he's received our letters/cards because he mentioned a few things we wrote about. I feel like we let him down....

Keep those phones handy everyone and make sure someone is close when you aren't!!!

He sounded great but I did hear a sob in the beginning because he said he misses us terribly... That really broke my heart! But I know he'll be just fine. Hope all the other moms get their call!

I just received the call from my SR. We were so happy. He sounded a little bit sick, but he said everything is fine. Now I can' t wait to see my baby. my son left Jul. 10, and arrived RTC 07/11 so for those mom with SR around those days be ready, today may be the day. Have a wonderful day.
