OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thuf22:  Your sailor will have Liberty through the entire weekend (Daytime, he must be back on base at night) because the GL A School students get that.  He will move over to GL A School base shortly after PIR is over....then he will call you to pick him up.  He probably will have to be back on base around 10 pm each night...you can go ahead and book flights on Southwest if you want....into either Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee.....there is no change fee if he gets delayed in training and 2 bags check for free.  So if you find a deal, go ahead and get it!  It is a 45 min drive from Milwaukee to GL (no traffic) and an hour+ from Midway to GL (longer when there is traffic which is often!).  Car rental is a good way to go for you....most economical.---probably cheaper in Milwaukee.  You will have lots of time with your sailor to drive on the weekend (he can't drive, but you can!  Sailors are not allowed to drive during PIR weekend).

Yes, you can bring his personal items for him. He can have these once he has Liberty and returns to A School base.

Please post if you have any other questions!

my fiance is ship 04 div 820. I just have a few questions im hoping to get some help with since I am very new to this! I dont know if I should book hotel and flight for a few nights or just stay for one night, not knowing if he will have time inbetween is making this difficult. I also dont know if its a good idea to rent a car while im there. He will be staying in great lakes once he is done with bootcamp just moving across the street. I also wanted to know if he is able to have his phone at that time as well. any insight will help! thanks!

GaBoyMom and Navysister:  Ok, ladies....your SRs are in brother divisions!  That means, they train together. So you may want to friend request and personal message !
