~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hi everyone, especially veteran members,

Are there any groups on this site for people who will work at Navy Yard in DC?  Just curious if there are any discussions about neighborhoods, moving, etc.  My search didn't turn anything up, but maybe I am not looking in the right place.

Thanks!

I was talking with my son in BC this past weekend and he told me one of the guys received a care package last week. It had jerky in it. I didn't think they were allowed anything like that. Anyone know anything abt this?

Thank you Dannell.  17 days.. that makes me feel a little better!  My job keeps me busy and I am hoping this is THE week.  Meanwhile, I continue to write him every night and encourage him.  Someone else mentioned he may have been on watch.  Either way... Oct 3rd is quickly approaching :)

LLynn my thoughts are with you!!! I was fortunate to get a call this weekend after not hearing from my daughter for 17 days - I don't know how I would be right now if I hadn't so my heart aches for you. Maybe your son was scheduled for watch when his div got to make calls...either way, Stay strong...I will be praying that you get a letter and call this week!!!

Michele... I am pretty confident I did not miss a call as we literally have not put our phones down for a moment.  It comes to meetings, church, and the bathroom with me.  We talked before he left and he said if he was having a hard time he was going to 'dig in' and get through with focus and determination.  He told me he would not allow his emotion to distract him and I should just know he is okay.  I told him to do what he needed to do but I didn't know just how hard it was going to be.  I thought for sure when all the calls started coming in from his division, he would call or at least write but so far he has not contacted anyone by either means.

LLyn did you maybe miss a call? My son is 310 and has called twice. He hasn't written yet though, not expecting much there!

Talked to my son FINALLY on Sun (Ship 02 Div 947). He's doing great and is 2nd in command of his division (Master of Arms) he's super proud! Says food is really good and is Bored. He's looking forward to the "cool" stuff to come. LOL

ediekens:  You could use anything that is Navy-themed, anything you think your new sailor would enjoy welcoming him as a sailor.  You may want to check with your hotel first and see what they allow as far as decorations.  If your SR is a shy one and doesn't want all of the hoopla on the outside of the door, then maybe decorate inside the room for only him to see!  My son is not the type to want that done for him, so we didn't do it when he graduated.  No hoopla for him!
