OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Josh'sMom:  The mail is held from them for about the first 2 weeks until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  Then they usually receive this on a Sunday, AFTER they have written their first letters (will be collected that day to mail out).  So some of the first letters will say:  How come you haven't written?    Don't panic....they received your letters after they wrote their own.

After this, they receive mail M-F.

Good Morning Everyone!

Lala, do the recruits receive mail each night? I had read somewhere that they received mail on Sundays. I don't remember where I read it, but it had said to number your letters b/c the recruits might receive several letters at the same time. thanks, Leslie aka Josh's Mom

Hi everyone, I am Lora aka Lala :) My daughter had PIR July 2010 and was in the Navy for 4 years. She just got out in May and my son-in-law is still in the nave and based in CA. I have been on this site helping out since July 2010 and I love this site. It sure got me through some very hard times. I missed my daughter more than I ever imagined I would. For now my best advice is to write a letter to your recruit every single day if at all possible. They live for mail call each night and your letter may be the one thing that lets them know they can get through another day. The need all the encouragement they can get :) If you have any questions at all please feel free to send me a friend request. I am happy to help in any way I can :) Welcome aboard!!!

I just want to say thanks for the heads up this morning. Got to talk to my son for about 15 minutes & he sounded really good. Says it's a lot like high school/jail combo. Said the first week was hell, but nothing worse than he expected. Passed his swim test & has blisters on his feet. He's the tallest in his division so for some reason that I didn't catch, he always is last in the food line. Says food isn't bad. I feel a ton of weight off my heart knowing he is plugging along & hanging tough. Again, thanks for the heads up...I really dîdnt believe it would happen today. (Ship 09 Div 308)

Hi all. My son, Josh, left for boot camp 8-7-14 & I received the form letter Thursday stating that he is in ship 12 Div 312. I was hoping to receive a phone call today but unfortunately did not. I was happy to hear that others were receiving calls before the 3-4 week range. Hopefully more calls will be received tomorrow. :)
