DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My son was delayed until Thursday, first he was told due to bad weather, then due to the shut down.  We enjoyed spending the entire weekend with him and he is in Pensacola now.

The great part is we got to spend the entire Liberty weekend with him.  =)  There is always a silver lining.

My son was waiting for a medical waiver from the Admiral before the shutdown.  It still hasn't come back so he is on Ship 5, THU until it is approved and then hopefully sent to FLW, MO for Seabee A-School.  I didn't find out until graduation day that he would be on a 2-3 week minimum hold.

Comment by Shanon24 (Ship12/Div 371) on October 11, 2013 at 11:05am

Some sailors were delayed with flying out because of bad weather at their destinations.

And some were on hold because their orders were not finalized before the shutdown took place but I'm not sure if they have all been released yet or not.

Diannep- my son flew to A school in Pensacola on Saturday. So, in his case at least, that is not true. The Navy website is posting updates on the effects of the government shutdown. RTC and A school travel are supposed to continue as scheduled.

Ladies, some of the SRs still at RTC were told that sailors in this PIR group were not able to fly out last weekend because of the govt shutdown.  True?  Please share your experiences here.

Comment by diannep on October 9, 2013 at 2:48pm

There is no rule against that, ladyhowl, unless your sailor is part of Special Operations.  Then they ask you to be careful posting pictures/personal info.

Leaving this group now!  Blessings to your new sailors!
