N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

proudwife:  They hold the mail from them for about the first 2 weeks of Bootcamp until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  After that, they receive their held mail and can write their first letters to you.  They will only be allowed to write to you once a week, but can receive mail M-F after that.

Josh mom: I hope you get your letter soon.

I heard someone of here mention that their SR had already received their mail. Any idea how long it usually takes for them to get mail? I hope that my husband starts getting some of my letters soon...

Thanks!

Thanks for the info diannep. He shipped out on August 12th and I received the "I'm Here" phone call that night. That was just over two weeks ago (boy does it seem longer) so I'm still within the timeframe to receive it. Maybe something during his processing days held him up or he was held over for the 10/16 group. Hopefully I will get it by Saturday. I was very upset at first but I know there is nothing I can do about it. I just keep writing my letters and I'm sure I will be able to mail them soon.

Div 338 Mommas- It just occurred to me that maybe not all of you were able to hear from your SR. So I wanted to share a few good points my son shared with me about their Division. He said they just were commissioned day before yesterday by the Chief. From what I understand this is a great step forward. They are recognized as a unit/Div, they are working together as a team. My son seemed very proud of this. He did say they have more work to do as far as working together but are doing well. He also said his RDC's "are cool" some divisions have "crazy" RDC's. He seemed encourage about his division and the people in it.

Josh Mom:  Is it possible that he is in the 10/16 group?  How long ago did he arrive?  I'm thinking that maybe, he was one of the last to arrivefor the 10/09 group and was held over for the 10/16 group.  In that case, that could be the reason you have not received the form letter---even with the wrong zip code.  They mail the boxes pretty quickly, but not the form letters all of the time.  I too am surprised that the recruiter has no info...the computer should have it.  If he/she feels he cannot give it to you, he should just tell you that he/she can't give that out but has it just so you know that he has been assigned a PIR group.  You can try contacting RTC Public Affairs, but they usually are not able to give you info like that....they will usually tell you it must come from your SR.  But maybe they will allow you to update your mailing address with them....it would sure be worth a try.

Just to let you know, form letters for 10/16 are just starting to be received.

He should be able to call home soon.  Although they say not until 3 weeks, many are able to call home before then.

I sure hope you hear something soon!

Good Morning All !

Good advice navymom0812. I will do that.

Josh mom 2015 I am so sorry! I would be beside myself too! So hard. I am surprised the recruiter knows nothing. That is how I got his div number. Anyway, since you know he has zip wrong I would email RTC tomorrow if it is not there. It can be delayed longer or not get there and they say it is important for them to get mail. That is what I would do. Can't hurt to ask due to the circumstances. Plus it may take them a bit to answer you back. Hang in there, you will get it soon, I know it! :)

Thanks livinginGrace. He used the wrong zip code on his box so that is probably the problem. We moved in June so he doesn't know our new address by heart.

@Josh mom 2015 i am heart sick for you not being able to hear from your SR. Hang in there your bound to hear something any day. Maybe your SR somehow confused your address with all the confusion in the early days. Emailing RTC may be your best route.

Still no form letter :( called his recruiting office but they were useless. If I don't get it by this weekend I will email RTC on Monday. Not sure what else I can do except send letters for him to all the divisions :). My biggest concern is that I haven't booked flight or rooms since I'm not sure that 10/9 is his PIR
