N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

@Deelyn  &  @sparkiel My son is also MA and will go to San Antonio. He is in Div 338...

Deelyn:  They will most likely be bussed to the airports PIR night (very late....sometimes into wee hrs of Sat.) to wait for Sat. flights.  You can meet them there and wait with them.  Some may be flying out at 6 a.m., others not until late afternoon, others in between, but all will be waiting at the airport.  Take ID to get a gate pass to wait with them until their plane departs.  We DO suggest that people try and stay until Sunday, if possible, since occasionally they may not fly out until then (if unable to get flights).  That way, you will not miss any time with your new sailor!

Good Morning All !

@livingingrace and@curlyq, my son is in ship 11 div 338 too:). He will be going to A school in Groton, CT for submarine training. I'm planning on booking a room for PIR, but not sure how many nights because we don't know when he will be flying out to A school. Does anyone know how long after PIR to A school outside of GL?

SECURITY CLEARANCE CALLS

Here is something on SECURITY CLEARANCE CALLS:

If your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information,(800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's..., anyone that handles confidential info),there is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks (sometimes later as well) after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! My son asked for two more names along with their phone number and address. Sometimes you may be asked to fax the info but he was told to get it from me right then. So, it is a good idea to have a couple of references ready just in case.

This is a short business call and it is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

Hello!

I am a “veteran” mom. When I am on here my focus is mainly the PIR Groups and Boot Camp Mom's.

You can call me FTLW, it's easier :-)

My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I am an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife (29 years - now retired). I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Our son enlisted while Hubby was on his 2nd Deployment.. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands Deployment.

Welcome to your PIR Group!

Other hotels suggested by those on this site are:

Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  These hotels area bout 4-5 miles from RTC...near a Walmart shopping center with restaurants in it.....close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR.  Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.  For larger groups, Residence Inn is good....they have 2 bdrm 2 bth units, with full kitchens, sleeper sofa in the living room.
