~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hello chippers mom My SR is also in Ship 14 Div 318 with your SR. I would not worry too much your SR will either be able to buy his own calling card at the NEX or borrow from someone until he gets his own. They are given a NEX card for purchases, They are also given paper and envelopes for writing and can purchase stamps. I sent my SR with 5 stamps but since I have been writing to him I have been enclosing a self addressed stamped envelope with each letter sent. If I am forwarding a letter from family member I put their address on the SASE so all he has to do is write a letter and stick it in the envelope. I have also been enclosing a strip of moleskin for him in case of blisters from the boots.
I also plan on forwarding labels with addresses of his friends so that he can write to them directly if he wants to.
If you want you could write a letter to him and include stamps, calling card. Don't make the letter (I use business size envelope) too heavy or fat. I make sure it only costs a regular stamp to mail. I would prefer sending several letters as opposed to a fat one and he get in trouble. There is no limit to amount of mail they can received :)
Very nice to meet you and we will get thru bootcamp together
I am booked at the Navy Lodge with a kitchen. I am also happy that they are pet friendly since we may have to bring the Yorkies :)
You're welcome. I haven't heard much about the Gateway inn as far as quality but I am sure it is great. You for sure won't find another room of that type for anywhere near that price. The Navy Lodge does have some rooms with a small kitchen in them but not a separate bedroom. I am sure you will be pleased with the quality of the Gateway Inn. When you get back send me a message and let me know how it was so I can have the info for moms who stay there in the future :)
Hotel reservation - Check
Car reservation - Check
Flights - have them all picked out, just need all of the family members to make decisions whether they are coming or not. If they don't hurry up, I'll just make my own flight reservations & they can figure out there own.
That is correct Honeybooboo, It is a pain to stay at the Navy Gateway Inn because of the background check and your sailor will have to have a chit to go to that hotel to visit you. It is located on the A-school base not the boot camp base. Navy Lodge is a great place to stay. It doesn't have those same restrictions and it is only a few dollars more the the Gateway Inn.
Aejmom: You can call the recruiter to get PIR/Ship/Div info. Just confirm that with the letter when you get it.
Welcome!
Heidic: We have had very mixed reports on Ramada....some have said ok, some said not ok. I was in touch with an employee at the A School up there and she said that it is not in a good area. Why not try Navy Lodge, Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Residence Inn, or Holiday Inn Express? All good hotels. You can use Sarge's shuttle to/from PIR from these hotels for just $3/pp each way.
Catmom509,
I will check it out. Don't want to stay in a dump. The pics looked out but I must admit I did not check the reviews! I think there is still time for rooming right? I was super worried about the travel, as long as I have my flight I am happy :) Thanks for the help :)
Heidic4,
Please check the reviews on the Ramada... questionable at best... If you want a low rate, the Navy Lodge is $66 and has awesome reviews!!
