~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Welcome to the new members of this PIR group, especially those returning for an additional SR training to be a sailor in their family!

As ellen said, please read through the PAGES info to the right of this page....lots of your questions will be answered there.  If you still have one after reading that info, please post it here and we will try to get an answer for you!

By the way, for anyone who is interested in contacting Sarge for transportation, you can text or call him at:

847 212 0246  or email him at: johnspadaro@att.net

...should clarify that if you use Sarge's shuttle from the airport, I believe he takes you to PIR for free....but I believe you pay for the return.

Comment by diannep on August 19, 2014 at 6:03pm

Other hotels to consider would be:

Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express....all 4-5 miles from RTC, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR....you can use Sarge for the PIR shuttles if you like!  $3/pp each way.

If you decide to use one of the above-mentioned hotels, be sure to call them direct and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  In the past, they had one.  Only for a certain number of rooms though, I believe.

tailea:  Hmmmm.....we have never heard that any of the sailors, no matter where there A School was, were not allowed at Navy Lodge.  I contacted Brian Walsh in Public Affairs at RTC about this recently, since some SRs were being told they would not be allowed there, and he said it wasn't true and was going to try and get it straight with the ones delivering incorrect info.  You may want to call RTC yourself to confirm:  847 688 2405

If you do, please let us know what info you get.  Thanks!

As far as Gateway, that is correct.  The sailors staying at RTC because they are flying out usually have no issues visiting family at Gateway after PIR and those going to the A School move over there shortly after PIR is over and can get their chit so they can visit.

As far as taking taxis/shuttles, that can be a little expensive....the shuttles are a set price from the airports/to and from PIR....if you share with another family or group to/from the airports, it is a bit cheaper.  But economically, it is usually better to rent a car if you can.

If you decide to go into Chicago, you may want to consider taking the train.  The train station is right next to RTC....it is very affordable, especially for your sailor.

Hi.  I've done some reading about staying at The Navy Lodge vs. The Navy Gateway Inn & Suites.  I'm leaning toward public transportation and shuttles instead of renting a car, because I'm not familiar with the area and have no idea how difficult navigating and parking would be if we are able to spend time in Chicago.  I understand from the transportation perspective that it would be better to stay at The Navy Lodge.  However, I also read in a review of The Navy Lodge that The Navy Lodge is considered off base housing for those sailors staying in GL for A school, so they cannot go there.  However, they can go to The Navy Gateway Inn & Suites, if they have a deviation chit.  Do I have the correct information?  Any suggestions one way or another about lodging (even if it is an entirely different hotel) and transportation?

Hello PIR 10/10/2014 parents.  I have to say this is a really great thing that Navy Moms is doing!  I never expected this level of involvement.  Thank you ellen0502 and the rest of the of the veteran members for helping us through this time and bringing us all together!

I have also booked my room at Navy Lodge Yorkiefan!  Thursday through Monday, since my son is staying there for A and C school I think he will have leave both days that weekend!!

My son is in Ship 14 Div 317.

Hi!

Welcome to Navy for Moms!!

My Sailor Daughter's PIR was March 2013--can't believe how fast time has flown!.  She is an IT3 (Information Systems Technician, Petty Officer Third Class). I primarily provide scriptural encouragement for the PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and a few of the other groups that I am a member of.  I'll also help out with anything that I am familiar with--all kinds of tidbits I learned during my daughter's Boot Camp experience~~  This site really made the time go much faster.  I'm so thankful that my Sailor daughter sent me the link for this awesome group of friends when she enlisted!!  Count 9 Fridays and before you know it, you'll be seeing your baby again at PIR!!  Here we go!!!
