OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I think this group is quietly and apprehensive awaiting our phone calls! I am so nervous for my SR and praying that God gives me my SR`s apprehensivness, his fatigue, his worries, his doubts if there are any-I personally am trying to find a way for his best friend to get to PIR. I can't pay for his flight but have offered to have him room with my husband and I-pick up from where ever is  reasonabe or help with cab fare/transport, this is killing me because I know my boy wants his best friend there but I am.not wealthy at at all. I can't even get his siblings  there with us as flights are outrageous. Trying to get ny ducks in order here and make sure ny list(that I never make) is in order. God bless us all we travel to.our children for one of the biggest.moments in their lives!

Good Morning to a VERY QUIET GROUP here.  Please post any questions you may have for us re: remainder of Bootcamp, PIR, A School, etc!  We will be glad to help!

From California, it averaged 3 days for my Sailor daughter to receive letters in Great Lakes from me, so I sent my last letter on Saturday and she received it on Wednesday of PIR week~

Comment by diannep on September 27, 2014 at 11:20pm

TNVolFanMom:  We suggest not sending letters to the SRs after Fri, a week before PIR.  If you want to continue sending past then, copy your letters and take the copies to PIR in case they all didn't arrive.

Comment by Yorkiefan on September 27, 2014 at 10:44pm

I wont be sending any letters after about Tuesday/Wednesday this week coming
