The Box:
...of smelly clothes! LOL
If your SR (Seaman Recruit) took their cellphone with them it will be returned in the box...look in the pants pockets and the shoes if you don't see it outright. Often times it will be taken apart and stuffed into the toes of the shoes.
If you're wondering why one or both pants legs are rolled up...it's because they get their feet measured and they have no time to roll them back down (they're gonna take 'em off anyways!)
The box will arrive by Fed Ex about 5-7 days after your SR arrives at RTC (Recruit Training Command).
Some don't send a box home...they just wear the clothes on their back (donate or throw them away), bring only the necessary items that they can keep and use the payphone at RTC for their "I'm here!" call.
Thanks. Just wanted to be sure. Another question if anyone can help. We plan on driving up for PIR and my husband's work (auto dealer) is going to let us borrow a car as none of ours will make the long trip. As we won't have any paperwork (like would be associated with a rental car) and the vehicle won't be registered in our name, I'm pretty sure we won't be able to drive to the base. Is that correct? (We do have a dealer insurance card with my husbands name on it.) If so, what would be the very best transportation option for the morning of PIR to make sure we arrive on time? One child is 14 mo. so in a car seat, I don't know if that will be an issue as far as shuttle/taxi or whatever.
I got the box today and along with the clothes, shoes, and cell phone was a manila envelope with photocopies of SS card, HS diploma, birth certificate, etc as well as papers my son had initialed at recruiters office (photocopies also). All the posts from other moms just mentioned the clothes and phones so I'm wondering why the envelope was in the box. Anyone know?
Today is a good day...got the Form letter and my daughter is in Ship 11 Div 340, her recruiter was right on. Then I got not just one, but several phone calls from her and it didn't matter if she just needed some infos, I was still so happy just to hear from her. Hope everyone is having an awesome day cuz our kids are doing amazing things for their future.
Izzy/Claudia'sMom...I'm so sorry to read about your daughter. I was hoping our daughter's would get to know each other. I am glad that she has another plan. I think everyday is still kinda scary, specially not knowing exactly what they're going through. Good luck to your daughter and take care...
Got our letter today ship 11, Div 340
thanks diannep:)
339/340 are "brother" divisions and will be training together. So they are like one big division when training.
IzzyClaudia'sMom: I'm so very sorry about that....I can imagine how disappointed she is....glad there is a Plan B -- may be just what she needs...whether she knows it now or not. But still, I know a very hard time for her....prayers for all.
