Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Gina:  They must "phase up" at A School before they can leave base and then it would be on the weekend.  It takes 2-3 weeks to phase up....you will need to stay in touch about that with your sailor to see when he would be allowed to leave the base.  Or....if it isn't before his birthday, you may be able to visit with him on-base.  He will be advised of this during INDOC when he arrives on the A School base.

Hello gals!!

diannep, glad some heard me hollering from that mountain!

CNC, you're so welcome!!  I enjoy picking out the scripture for the day.  It comforts me to know that God has put my Sailor daughter on this Navy path and she is really doing great!!!

Gina:

Here is general info on what they are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_coin

While in Bootcamp, many order the challenge coin for the ship they are in, presenting it to your new sailor after PIR.  If you are interested in doing that, here is the website to order it on:

CatMom:  I believe they have been kidnapped by FB people!  You think?  If so, please be sure to come back here, ladies, and check in with us too!
