OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

OMG just got a call from my sailor. Ship 13 Div 342!!!!! He was so happy to talk to me he was crying. I could hear the ear to ear smile on his face. He is doing great. He actually said he is having fun! He said everyone in his ship is doing great and only 1 kid got yelled at bad (for swearing) last night. He just got the PB shot and everyone in his ship is sick from it now. Hopefully some of you other 13/342 will be getting a call too!

Navy14- no phone call yet but still waiting. I'm hoping he does get to call. I know they look forward to it as much as we do. Makes for a long week for all when they don't call.

CCG'sMom:  Yes, those flying out most likely will be bussed to the airports late Fri night/early Sat. morning---although every now and then, some may not leave until Sunday, and they can leave from either OHare or Midway (not sure if they are flying out from Milwaukee yet).  Flights will start leaving as early as 6 a.m. but some may be waiting in the airport for most of the day for their flights.  If your sailor happens to leave from OHare, there is a Hilton inside that airport.  They have a $55/day rate for those Sailors who have to hang around the airport all day....several Sailor families have booked this rate so they and their Sailor had a private place to rest and hang out until flight time.

Ampingitup- I think that is what hurts me the most too. We want our babies to grow up but when they do it hurts. I knew after my son walked out of the door that things would never be the same. It's sad but we raised such amazing kids.
