I just received my son's first letter today. Very upbeat and positive (mixed with his great sense of humor!!!). He said everything was going great. So that was a big relief. I hope this helps.
Hi ladies! My son is ship 12 div 348, he arrived at BC on 8/28 around 8pm
His GF recieved her first letter from him today! He told her... "he is happy there, that the hardest part is staying awake during the day because they keep him so busy and he doesn't get to sleep very much. He said he has made a few friends that he really likes".
I am still at work so won't know if we got one also....my Husb said to me...don't be surprised if GF gets one before you!! LOL. I'm a realist and would completely understand that!! But now anxious to seeing if we got one : )
I'm sure everyone's will be trickling is this week! Yay!
Yeah just checked the mail here and nothing yet... thanks for the info stephanie
All Ship 2 Div 950 people: Don't expect letters till next week. A girl on facebook posted on my wall saying she got a call from her husband (he needed her social sec number) and she said they were unable to mail out letters on Sunday even though they have been able to write. He said to expect them next week. :( Kind of a let down. BUT at least we know they have been writing, so next week we should all be in luck.
I like how you think Lala Ribbion!!! lol
I had a feeling the letters for most of you wouldn't come until next week. Most of the PIR group 1 week ahead of you are getting their first letters this week. If your recruit is in one of the first couple of divisions formed then the chance is better for receiving a letter sooner. This is my theory after being here and learning all I can for two years :-) Each division is filled as the recruits arrive at bootcamp. When the division is filled they begin processing. It may be the next day or a couple days before the next couple of divisions are formed and then begin processing. Once the first two divisions are finished with processing, which can take a week or longer, they then move to their "ship". Once in the ship they have to train someone to handle the mail. This also takes time because it is a government job. After this is all completed they can write their first letters but not until Sunday. I think that they "make" it take this long because it then gives the recruits a little time to get into the grove of boot camp and hopefully by then much of the homesickness has gotten better before they write that first letter. And that, I think makes it a little easier on the families even though they are already stalking their mailbox :-) Of course this is just my theory but it makes sense to me. Maybe I'm just nuts lol.
No one in my sailor's family has received a personal letter yet. I know his Mom, sister and grandmother have written him, so hopefully a response will be coming soon! Hope they all are doing great in bootcamp.
