Just got home from work, no letter yet except for the form letter. Next thing I checked after the mail box was this site. Sounds like no one has received that much waited for letter. Hopefully tomorrow. I understand that they only get to write on Sundays during their 6 hour free time. I wonder if that didn't happen during their 1st Sunday there.. You would of thought one by now if they had gotten to write then. Love reading everyone's comments. Good Night for tonight but i'm off tomorrow. Sure i'll be on here again!
Welcome, Melinda! Here are the hotels we hear the best about, and we N4Moms veterans have stayed in some of them:
Navy Lodge (economical, close to base), Residence Inn Waukegan, Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn. Navy Lodge has no PIR shuttle service, but is close to drive. The other 3 have PIR shuttle service ($3/pp each way, sailor returns with you for free usually)...they are about 4-5 miles from base. If your group is larger, Residence may work better since they have studios AND 2 bdrm 2 bth units....and they are pet friendly! All 3 are Marriotts and nice hotels.
Hello to all in PIR 10/26! I am just joining this group now and am enjoying catching up with all of your comments. I will be flying in from Seattle and was curious if anyone knows what the top 3 hotels to stay at while there...the ones that are most convienent and best amenities for the price. Thank you, Melinda
Active or retired military do not need to be on the list. They just need their military ID.
Bradsmom: We took the shuttle and it was very easy. Bypasses the car line so no waiting. We were on the 6:30 shuttle from Residence Inn...worked out great. Still had a good choice of seats in the PIR Hall that early although there were lots of people there already. Picked it back up by the front gate, sailor in tow (they usually ride on it for free).
Bradsmom, It's a matter of choice, but most of the shuttles only costs about $3 each way to RTC and some of them leave as early as 6:30a.m. to get there. There is an advantage with the shuttle, in that, you are usually not waiting in the long line of cars to get on the property as the shuttle drivers know their way around those lines. We took the first shuttle out from the Residence Inn and were already in line inside the hallway by 6:45a.m. They open the doors to the hall at 7:00a.m. so we had our pick of seats. :)
Thank you, Navy Witchy-Hopefully we will hear from our sons soon. Not hearing from them is the worst part, isn't it?
