WELCOME TO PIR 10/26/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

After watching many moms put their info on about their SR that left the same time my son did, I finally got the form letter.  PIR 10/28 Ship 02/ Division 950....YAY!  Anyone else? TIme to send out the letter I have been writing:-)

corbie, you can send a few pictures, they are very limited for space so many moms print pictures in a collage on the back of their letters. I sent a few 4X6 prints because my daughter had asked for them. You can send lots of letters and you can send cards just don't send any musical or recordable cards. They get IT (Intense Training) for those. We get lots of shy moms on here, it is a great place to get over your shyness :-)

cjbutler, you can take their cell phone and charger and even some other electronics like a laptop or E-reader if they have those. You will have to meet him/her at the airport to pass those off to them.

HI Betsy :-)

Stopping by to say Hi! I appreciate all the information and questions people are posting. I am normally to shy to ask anything (trying to overcome that). My sr is my oldest son (out of 4 boys). He is staying at Great Lakes for A school after boot camp.

What kind of things can be sent, like can I send pictures? Or just letters/cards?

Another "veteran" checking in here.  I'm Betsy and my sailor is Adam, who is our youngest son out of our 5 children.  He is currently on the USS CVN 74 John C. Stennis, (based out of Bremerton, WA) but is currently deployed.  My husband and I live in Maryland where I am helping take care of my elderly parents and doing a lot of babysitting for my two grandchildren.  We are empty nesters now, as 2 of our children are in New Mexico, 1 is living in Colorado and our oldest daughter is here in Maryland.  I can't wait to get to know you all. Welcome to the Navy life, it's a fun, happy and confusing life, but we are all here to help. Navy women are very strong, so remember.  You can do this!

Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbon Queen and I'm from NC. I have a daughter, 22, who is Sailor in VA. She had PIR in July, 2010 so I have been on this site for more than 2 years. Her husband is also a Sailor in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We give him a really hard time because she outranks him lol. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you.I often get messages from people who either have not been accepted to this website yet so they can't post comments or they are just to shy at this point to say anything yet. So, you can send me a private message if you like and I will do my best to help you.My email address is listed on my page so just click on my name or picture and it will take you to my page. My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't do this just come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)

Hello!

♥FireTeamLeaderWife♥ aka FTLW here!

My Sailor PIR’d on 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I have been an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife for 27 + years…I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments…one right after 9/11 and most recently a year ago…our son enlisted while Hubby was in Iraq. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands and my separation for 6 months.

I am a “veteran” mom on the PIR groups mostly. I have been on them now for over a year and we have 7-8 PIR groups running at the same time.

I will check in here to see if I can answer any questions and lend support. There will be a few other veteran moms along to lend a hand and support you all through your PIR experience. Others drop in occasionally too…plus we are always looking for more to “join the ranks”. Things change in the military and we like to give out the most current info that we can so moms that have just gone through this help a lot.

I have a lot of PAGES with information to provide you along the way. I will post as the subjects come up! Please ask any and all questions…there are NO dumb ones Folks!

Welcome! Hang on for the ride!
