WELCOME TO PIR 10/26/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I can say for sure that no extras are allowed in.  My 15 year old son wasn't allowed in, and he technically wasn't supposed to be an extra!!  This is what happened:  My son is listed on the form letter, BUT when we arrived at PIR he was not on the printed list that the Navy had.  Apparently my SR thought his brother did not need to be on the list because he is a minor.  He was not aware that anyone over 12 years old needed a pass.  I didn't know my SR was under this impression since his brother was written on the form letter, otherwise I would surely have had him correct the list.  Apparently sometime after the form letter was sent the SRs turned in a "final" list.  This is where my SR made the mistake of leaving his brother off the list.  His brother traveled with their father (we are divorced).  So neither my SRs father nor his little brother saw the graduation because my ex-husband stayed out with my young son who wasn't on the list.  If extras would have been allowed, then my son would have been able to get in. No such luck.  They allowed absolutely NO ONE in who wasn't on the list.  I even had the form letter with me, and they still said no way :-(

TY for reporting back on the extras.

If anyone has further info when you have time if you could please post what you experienced about the extras it would be really appreciated.

I have conflicting info about where exactly extras go if they happen to attend.

ProudMom - How cool is that about sitting next to your friend!

Comment by diannep on October 26, 2012 at 3:50pm

Thanks so much for passing that on about the "extras", ProudMom.  So very sorry because I'm sure some of the extras being turned away were caught off guard with that.  They knew there was no guarantee though....  :-(  Hope they are now enjoying their day with their sailors!

Just got back from PIR and waiting in the hotel for my SR to get done with check in at GL School..  A couple of things I saw...they were turning people away at the door who weren't on the list.  We were lucky, we didn't have extras. But ready to enjoy the weekend with her.  Beautiful ceremony.  Also found out I was sitting right next to my friend on Navy Moms so that was really nice!
