Anyone else just get a call
he called his dad at work and then called me. He was headed to the exchange for a few things before PIR. He was tired and excited all the same time.
Hooyah! Just got the call... I'm now a PROUD Mom of a Sailor too!!! My son said he was tired and had been up all night. He said they let them buy some snacks so he was munching on beef jerky when he called. I told him I'd bring him a pair of jeans and T-shirt to wear while in our hotel room and he said OK but was worried they'd have hidden cameras or something and he'd get caught out of uniform and get in trouble. He's made it this far, he doesn't want to do anything wrong at this point! I'm pretty sure he'll be safe in the hotel room, wouldn't you think?

He said he couldn't tell me about Battlestations, which I figured already. I said to him, "I know, if you tell me you'd have to kill me, right?" He just laughed and said "something like that."

Can't wait to give him a big hug and take him out for the biggest BURGER we can find in Chicago. Any recommendations?
Portillos for the burger!
LOL fredabee, they get so indoctrinated! Yes, he'll be fine "chillaxin'" in his own clothes in the Hotel. No hidden cameras or lurking RDCs :) Anywhere else, including an indoor pool, it's navy issued clothing only!

CB and (formerly) Migi-at least you didn't do what I did.. I answered my call with a hearty "Well. hey Sailor!." There was absolute silence for a moment. My heart stopped, my stomach dropped and I thought, "Oh NO, he didn't make it!". Then there was a soft, tired chuckle and he said "Well Mom, that's rather presumptuous of you, but yes I AM a Sailor now." That's when my heart started beating again !! whew. =]

The CMC of RTC told me earlier this year that the dates for BS are set far in advance. They keep that info close to the cuff and changes are rare. So, this IS a wonderful surprise/gift and probably a testament to what kind of impression your guys have left on their command. They have done extremely well and I know you are all SO proud of them!! =) A very big CONGRATS to all! They made it through, and so have you. You have crossed over from the Civilian DEP phase, then BC Moms, to officially now being able to call yourselves the Mothers (or Wives) of US Navy SAILORS!!!! :D Now, go finish packing and get some sleep! I know your Sailors all will. LOL
Oh man==my sailor kept adjusting his cover and straightening his seams the whole time we were with him in public! I even aked him why he kept putting his fingers up to his nose and forehead--he was checking his cover! But we did get to relax and talk and enjoy company and watch the Fl Gators win the game over the GA Bulldogs--although I have to say, the Dawgs did play better than we did! That's what he wanted to do, so we just relaxed at the hotel room...It was a fun weekend-one I will remember always.
Hooyah==Got my call just as I was leaving work--what a nice ending to a day! Everyone one did great! Can't wait to see my new sailor! Congrats to Divs 354 and 823!!
Congrats to all of our Sailors and family of Sailors!!
it is so nice seeing our little group lite up with messages. I am glad our kids are doing so great and I bet they will sleep good tonight knowing it is mostly over and will see us soon.
Amen to that Sailorbono'smom! Safe travels everyone, have a wonderful time and God Bless. :-)
Hey Ma--:-) we saw you getting off the train back at base on Saturday...Graduation was GREAT!!!! I wish we could do the whole weekend over again--I miss my boy. My Mom cried all the way to the airport after we left him at the base...it was all I could do not to do the same. Things should be a little easier now--we'll be able to talk to them more in their A schools. My other son is getting his hair cut like his brothers!
My son told me they couldn't order any more of the shirts, too.
