Lala - I agree about the beach in Sept! Not too hot, and usually, not too cold ... I was there with my sisters (In Perdido Key), last September. We drove across to Orange Beach, while there, and went on a sunset cruise on a 40ft sailboat. LOVED it!!

That's cool, my daughter is an AO and her fiancee is EOD. We love Pensacola. Thinking about going again for A-school graduation. The beach in Sept is awesome!

Wow, Lala! Thanks for all of the grad-n-go info! My son will be going to P'cola for training after boot camp. We're actually kind of HOPING he'll be grad-n-go, because we're driving up and have to drive back Saturday evening due to our older son having to be at work on Monday ... and we'll only be six hours away from him once he hits Florida, again! (His rate is AME, Aviation Structural Mechanic).

My daughter missed 13 calls today from her fiancee. She was in class at A-school. He needed info for security and he is supposed to get to call back tonight. She can't have her phone during class, you would think they would know that lol. It is all the same Navy. :)

I'm not sure about the brown ones. I think one group was doing that for some who were having a hard time passing the PT test. The blue ones everyone burns each night of their PIR groups battlestations. I think you can get them from Yankee Candle sellers.

Question: I read somewhere that we are to burn a brown candle and a blue candle for battlestations and something else, but can't remember. Does anyone know when and what I am thinking?

Yeah! I got a letter! It was short because he said he had little time. But he did say that he was in the honor guard with the rifles and marching. He is very excited and can't wait to learn more. I am so proud of my SR! Maybe by graduation I will have stopped crying!

Thanks for being here new friends!

Carly- there is a discussion above about Grad and Go. View all discussions and it is on the second page. My best advice is be flexible. Where your sailor is going for A-school will have a lot to do with how much time you get to spend with him. In most cases if they are going somewhere other than GL they will leave on Saturday. The bus will take them from the base to the airport between 2 and 5 am. That doesn't mean that their flight is that early. They just take a bus load at a time. In most cases you can meet them at the airport and hang out with them until time for their flight. That could be an hour or much longer. I know one mom who spent 12 hours with her sailor in the airport and they had a great time. There is a chance that they could be going on a chartered flight. That usually means they will not get to come in the airport at all. They go straight from the base to the jet. That will mean that you will only get about 7 hours with them on Friday. And won't be able to meet them at the airport. This happened to us. It was heart breaking. So many parents waiting to see their sailors. We all left in tears. It wouldn't have been so bad if we had know this could happen. They won't know until the night before or morning of PIR if it is a chartered flight. Now if they are staying in Great Lakes and are grad and go, that can be a very good thing. You may have to wait on them for 3 to 5 hours to move their stuff over to the other base but once they do they usually get to spend the whole weekend with you. Nights as well. They may have to go back to do watch or duty but then you get to pick them up again. If you find out they are grad and go send them a little index card in a letter and have them write down all the flight info and give it to you at PIR. You will need Airport, flight time, airline, flight number etc. You don't want to end up at the wrong airport. And it has happened before. I know this is long, I hope it helps. :) Prepare for the worst and hope for the best :)
