N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

hang in there ladies, it will get better. I still havnt received a letter and too worried about the lack of contact. this is my second son in the navy. I recently took out the first letter I received from the older son. he states a lot of the same things that you all are saying your sons and daughters are saying. he actually asked me to help him get out somehow...he then went on and had a great time in the navy for six years and now took that experience to the VA hospital and loves it. so I know it is hard when they start but when you watch what they become it is so worth it. hang in there and support them with positive words.

Just remember that their day 1 of training can be any day M-F.  If they have a holiday during their bootcamp days, their day 1 moves back a day.

Comment by ellen0502 on September 19, 2013 at 9:12pm

Here is how the training days are counted, using this as an example:

Training starts on Thursday

Thursday, Week 1/Day 1

Friday, Week 1/Day 2

Saturday and Sundays are holiday or hold days

Monday, Week 1/Day3

Tuesday Week 1/Day 4

Wednesday, Week 1/Day 5

Thursday, Week 2/Day 1

Friday, Week 2/Day 2

Saturday and Sunday hold/holiday

Monday, Week 2/Day 3

Rinse and repeat.

Your SRs have a Federal Holiday thrown into the mix, and that day is also a holiday/hold day so..

Example of week with Monday holiday:

Thursday, Week 3/Day 1

Friday, Week 3/Day 2

Sat, Sun, and Monday hold days

Tuesday Week 3/Day 3

Wednesday Week 3/Day 4

Thursday Week 3/Day 5

Friday Week 4/Day 1

Hope that helps.

Exactly 2 weeks now, and no phone call or letter???? I'm praying to hear from him on Sunday, while all the family is here... I fell like his personal little stalker, every day I mail a letter and every day, I look in the mailbox at least 3 times a day...

Comment by diannep on September 19, 2013 at 9:02pm

Luvsbichons:  Write a letter to your SR from the dog!  I bet he will love that!

Comment by Luvsbichons Frank's mom on September 19, 2013 at 9:00pm
We just got a letter! He is adjusting well and seems very positive? He said he has met some really great guys/brothers! He misses us and his dog! And for us to expect more letters soon! Yay!

No real phone call or letter. Perhaps we will get lucky on Saturday or Sunday. .. :-)
Comment by diannep on September 19, 2013 at 9:00pm

aVOL2:  If that letter was written 5 days ago, he probably was doing/feeling much better by the time you received it!  But like ellen said, it gets better by about training week 4 for them.  Right now, there is lots of yelling, they feel they can do nothing right.  But soon, they have some accomplishments and they start realizing that the RDCs really want them to succeed!  So hang in there....better days are coming for your SR!
