OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Right back at you addisonsmom. You had me laughing as well. Thank god our sons are in the same division so mine won't be the only one getting bombarded with letters from home. Just used my last stamp today. Looks like another trip to the post office tomorrow. Could someone let the postmaster in our small town know that the jury is in... I am not crazy... Just a navy mom!!! You girls totally keep me sane. This would be a nightmare without you. Thanks everyone!!!

I thought I was bad writing. ..lol my Lil one said I keep wasting a stamp and I've been in the house all day, so what new thing do I have to write about. Lol I told her little 10 year old self that when she had her own kids 30 years from now, lol she will understand. Being a mom is crazy!!!

My daughter is been gone over 3 weeks now. I still have not received a real phone call or letter. I am going CRAZY!! Is there anyone else who has received no word from their SR yet??
Also, can't the Navy help us out if it is only 3 guest-that if you were a absent dad most of their live and decide to show up now, you get your spot taken!! (The is a joke, but I wish it could happen!)

Addison's Mom (Ship 09 Div. 417) That has to be the best one I have heard all day. Thanks!

Emily, you just made me lol when I read your comment, you sound just like me!!! Gosh, I was feeling like I was a little crazy or something! Then I thought, If I was crazy, that would mean all the other mothers here are crazy too and that could NEVER be true, SO... In that case, I am a SANE mailman stalker/cardio queen with writers cramp from writing 30 letters in a 13 day span!  I feel so much better now!!!! :0)

Welcome to the Navyhood :)

503 808, I am an official mailman stalker myself!! I cannot tell a lie!! And katmom, I still have the letters my son sent from Boy Scout camp when he was little. Go ahead and get your frame!! I am also gettingy cardio from sprinting to the phone(the few times its actually glued to me!!). I'm afraid I will be so excited when I hear my sons voice I will burst into tears and make him feel bad!! There is a name for women like us...helicopter moms;)!!
