N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@ Melniqsmom, Our recruiters told us the same thing. My SR left  with his license, ss card, cash, and BC which he sent back in the box. I too mailed him phone cards on Friday. I am just hoping that at the Hotel or airport he spoke to another recruit who told him to buy a phone card. The not KNOWING is what drives me Nuts. Once I get a letter or call, then I will be more at ease... Im so stressed my husband may let me put our Christmas tree up early to relax my worries. Christmas makes me happy, LOL

My recruit shipped Sept 3rd, his PIR is Nov 1st. I haven't got a call from him yet or a letter. I got the form letter.

Meinigsmom: I'm so sorry that some of the recruiters pass along improper info.  The fact is:  The SRs are allowed to keep their wallets up there and what is in them.  Some go with a small paper with family/friend phone numbers on it, etc.  They are allowed to arrive with phone cards (my son took one).  They can have a small amount of cash in there too, credit card, debit card...but no issues....just mail them that phone card in case they haven't bought one yet.

Smile:  You can use Sarge's shuttle service from Navy Lodge to PIR

847 212-0246 (you can text or call)

$3/pp each way.  The Navy Lodge may ask you to have your sailor stop by the front desk and confirm during your stay, but I'm not sure they enforce this.

I think you will enjoy your stay there.  They will give you a pass to shop in a small NEX nearby (without your sailor...normally the sailor has to be with you).  Some of your N4Moms veterans stayed there and enjoyed it.  And that was before it was renovated!

Dmae:  Yes, they do need calling cards but they can buy them up there with their Cash Card that they were issued (like Meinigsmom said).  However, if you want to get your SR one and mail it, it saves them money!  Get one with at least 250 min as connecting from the pay phones eats up minutes.  In the meantime, your SR should not miss a call because of no card.  SRs are good about lending theirs out to others when needed.

Good Morning!

@dmae...i asked the same question. Because my sons recruiter told me not to send him with anything other than his ID and social security card. So I didn't. but I've been told that the recruits are issued a cash card for the commissary that they can use to purchase stamps and calling cards and such....?? or that possibly other recruits can also let them use their calling cards. I hope one or both of these options are true because I would hate for my recruit to not be able to call for that reason. hope this helps

Does my recruit need a calling card to call home?

Comment by Smile09 AD/HM Mom on September 16, 2013 at 7:06am

Dianne - ok I read the reviews on that one and it looks like a great deal so I booked it in my SR's name.  How do I prove to them I have an SR and that we are going to the graduation?  Do you know if they have a shuttle to PIR?  Thanks again!

Comment by diannep on September 15, 2013 at 9:22pm

Smile, try Navy Lodge.  Make sure to book in your SR's name....tell them you are there for Navy Graduation.  They recently renovated.  Close to RTC.
