N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies, just some info:

Try and book with Southwest Airlines if you can.  There is no change fee (I incurred two of these when my son was at bootcamp...had booked with another airlines...my SR was delayed in training...UGH!)....and two bags check for free!  Also, if you book with Southwest, they usually give you a rental car discount coupon which can save you lots of money.  Check out their flights into Chicago-Midway (furthest from GL....about hour+) and Milwaukee (45 min to GL).

Remember, that if your sailors are flying out to A School, they will most likely fly from the Chicago airports the day after PIR....although we have been told that sailors will start flying from Milwaukee also in the near future.

Hotels recommended by others on this site in the past are:

Navy Lodge Great Lakes (book in your SR's name; state you are there for graduation)

Springhill Suites Waukegan/Gurnee

Courtyard Inn         "               "

Residence Inn        "               "

Holiday Inn Express"               "

All use the area shuttles for PIR ($3/pp each way, sailor can return with you if not staying in GL for A School because in that case, they move over there shortly after PIR and you pick them up later).  Sarge, a great asset to the Navy families up there, also has a shuttle service (same price).  He holds the larger MeetandGreet the night before PIR for the families of the sailors - sorry, no sailors will be there   :-(

It is not too early to book your hotels if you book directly with them.....usually you can cancel up until the day before/day of arrival if need be with no penalty.

Other brother divisions represented on here so far (which means, they train together):

409/410

413/414

415/416

Yes, WearsLargeHat:  411/412 are brother divisions!

Welcome to the new members of this group!  I am one of the N4Moms veterans assisting on the PIR groups here.  I have been doing this since early 2010.  We have a great N4Moms team here to help you (names listed at the top of this page).  Please be sure to read the info in the "pages" section above and to the right...under the MEMBERS PHOTO BOX.    After reading that, if you have any questions, please post here.

I will be adding the LIVESTREAM into the pages section.  The PIR service is livestreamed for those unable to go to the PIR.

Number of guests attending PIR will be limited per sailor...either 3 or 4.  We won't know until RTC lists the divisions in this PIR group since it goes by number of divisions.  12 divisions and under = 4 guests; 13 divisions and higher = 3 guests.  In the past, other SR's could add a shipmate's extra guests to their own list if theirs wasn't filled, but that is no longer allowed.  Only the guest listed on your sailor's list will be allowed into RTC.  "Extras" will need to remain off-base (watching the livestream on their computers!) and your sailor/group can join them after PIR off-base.

Welcome to the emotional up and down journey of Navy Bootcamp!  For both families and SRs!  But PIR will be well worth this journey!

I haven't got the official letter but until I do I am joining this group because if the advice I've received is correct and my calculations, my husband will graduate on Nov 1

My son is on Ship 12 Div 410.

Comment by aVOL2 on September 12, 2013 at 12:25pm

Hi! WearsLargeHats

Yeah from what I read it is not an integrated division.

Comment by WearsLargeHats on September 12, 2013 at 12:14pm

Our son is on Ship 13 Div 411. I assume 412 is the brother division. Also, it must not be an integrated division, since Ship 13 is the only ship not equipped for that.

I am really missing my son.. but  looking at this countdown is sure helping... This is my birthday weekend (so I know it will go fast).  I also won tickets to the Seattle Seahawks for 11/3 (My 49th Birthday) and I obviously am giving them away, so I can spend the weekend in Great Lakes.  This will be a great way to spend my birthday!
