OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thanks everyone for you kind words. I am loving that other moms are excited to get that phone call as I am :) I have a son (not a daughter) lol in Ship 13 DIV 411. If anyone is going to that graduation on November 1st please let me know because we are unable to attend and I don't want him feeling alone. My most recent call was last Wednesday so I am hoping to get another one soon. Thanks for the support from everyone.

GarayMom, the ribbons are a way to show your Sailor how proud you are of their accomplishments. They are also a great way to find other N4M and facebook members from the same division that you have been talking to and best of all they make a great keepsake. Feel free to send me a friend request if you would like more info or the link to my website. Thanks so much :)

Sea Turtle, If her ribbons came from me I am truly sorry there was a problem. I have made many many ribbons and have only a couple people who said they lost any letters. One was because her 2 yr old daughter kept pulling at the them and I sent her new letters free of charge. Maybe there was a bad pack of letters and the glue didn't hold as well. I would have replaced the letters or the ribbons if your sister had let me know there was a problem. I have always made sure my customers are very happy but I can't fix a problem if I don't know about it. I have had many people who made their own come back and tell me they wish they had ordered from me instead. When they saw so many people wearing my ribbons at PIR they were surprised at how good they looked and most of them said It ended up costing a lot more to make a ribbon like mine than to order because of everything that is needed. If she did order from me all she needs to do is contact me and I will send her any missing letters or remake her ribbon for free. I know that things can happen and to have only a couple problems out of thousands of ribbons is very good especially when I have fixed any problems I was made aware of. I know the letters I have now are sticking very well because I spelled a name wrong and tried to remove a letter and it wouldn't come off without leaving the glue so I had to remake the ribbon. All the feedback I have been getting has been wonderful and I truly appreciate everyone who has placed their orders with me and allowed me to make something special for their celebration. Please let me know if the order was from me and I will make it right. Thanks, here is my email uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com

503 808:  I would post the basket project/etc on Bootcamp Moms (if you haven't already) and the NEW MEMBERS group.  Not sure how active the NEW MEMBERS group is since I haven't been on it in a very long time, but those are the two that some from this PIR group may be on.  I think it is a wonderful idea!

If any of you Veteran moms out there could help us get the word out about our Basket project, Halloween costume contest and about bringing candy for the kids, to other groups you all belong to that would be really helpful. Thank you.

Machel We where/are practically neighbors. I lived in Newark for 8 years. Before moving to Oregon. I still have family living in Newark. If you wouldn't mind copying and pasting the about about the Meet and Greet and about the Halloween Costume contest into any groups you belong to that would be great. Not everyone knows about what Sarge does. Also if any one wants to bring candy for the kids that would be helpful also. Thank you and "Go Bucks"
