N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Lisa,

You could go ahead and book your hotel at least, then change the reservation if PIR turns out to be a different date.

juju1010,

See my response below to Carla re: your Family Day question~~

Comment by CatMom509 on September 21, 2015 at 3:41pm

Carla,

I hope you and your ex are on good terms for the sake of your SR son.  If you contacted him, would he share that you are one of the 4 on the access list to attend PIR 11/06/2015?  If not, then you would need to verify with your SR son via a phone call or letter that you are on the list.  Normally, only 1 Form letter goes out, even in divorce situations.

You could go ahead and book the hotel at least at this point as none of them require a deposit of any kind.  Call them direct and ask for the Navy graduation rate if you aren't going to be at the Navy Lodge, which already has great rates.  You will need to book under your SR's name there and he could have multiple rooms under his name.

Other recommended hotels are Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Courtyard Marriot -- all in Waukegan/Gurnee just 10 mins away from RTC.  There is a Super Walmart and many casual eateries.

Sarge's Meet & Greet at the Sundance Saloon is also across from the Super Walmart.  It is a great Navy families only event and closed to the public, so it is kid and family friendly  He provides free food, lots of information, and fun activities there.. Sarge is retired Army and loves to help the Navy families.  He also has a shuttle/taxi service team that can pick you up from the airport and get you to and from PIR.  This is if you don't plan to rent a car.

The Meet & Greet is what I am thinking juju1010 is referring to as Family Day?  It takes place the evening before PIR from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  No sailors will be there though.

Nuke&SnipesMom - my son is Ship 6 Div 369 also!  It's so exciting to hear about your weekend...makes me even more excited for the 11/06 weekend!

Carla - hopefully one of the veteran moms will comment & help you out, as they have no much info & experience!  I think your best bet is to contact his dad for info from the form letter.  I am booked at Navy Lodge, as are a lot of people (good price & close by).  Sounds like you should book somewhere soon...

Hi new to group and site. My son left on 9/10 and PIR is 11/6. He is on shop 02 and div 952. His dad and I are divorced and since he moved to his dad's house and signed in his state all the form letters ya'll are talking about continuos father. Can anyone enlighten me on what I need to do for myself so I can make sure I get information for PIR,lodging where to etc. any help would be great. I feel lost without my boy and no information but want to be fully involved thanks

Hi Moms.  I did get a form letter as confirmation, my Nuke son is Ship 6 Division 369- Brother Division w/  Div 370....I will say this...I just returned home from Great Lakes- my SR's older brother had his PIR on 9/18.  There are simply no words to describe how amazing and how emotional that was.  It truly did make these 8-9 lonely & tough weeks well worth all of it!  Looking back, the time did fly by.  Especially once we got over that 3 week hump.

*The letters and occasional (SURPRISE) calls truly helped. *Please always keeps your phone close by- you never know when those calls may come.

*Sarge's Meet & Greet was tons of fun for all ages, wonderful food- and extremely informative.  The overall atmosphere was great- remember, there will be hundreds of other moms and family members who have been on this same journey with us at the exact same time there.

*Start booking hotels now if you haven't already- they book fast

*PIR was awesome> We arrived what we thought was early 7am. We got right in- almost never found a seat for the 4 of us. I highly suggest getting there as early as humanly possible!
