Juliette, yes karens is very correct. They do pull wisdom teeth (and sometimes others) because the amount of dental care they can receive is very limited while they are out at sea. They try to avoid any major dental issues beforehand.
I guess that makes sense karen, but it still kind of annoys me. Usually, in MOST cases, but the time you're in you're 30s (which my fiance is), if you're wisdom teeth haven't gone by now, they most likely don't have to. It's so stupid to make them go through unnecessary pain during bootcamp, as if it's not hard enough. My friend's boyfriend just finished bootcamp back in August, and she missed her 4th week phone call because he was stuck in SIQ because of the teeth issue and therefore couldn't call her....I'm pretty much fearing I'm gonna have to deal with the same thing. UGH.
I'm so glad my son had his wisdom teeth out in high school!
Juliette, I'm not sure if they all have to have them pulled, but I heard somewhere that it was because if they were deployed and out to sea and had a problem with their wisdom teeth, there would be an issue about taking care of that while out to sea. Not sure, but that seems to make sense.
Happy Monday to you all as well! And Happy one month and 9 days till we get to see our sailors! BTW...question - but is it absolutely mandatory that they get their wisdom teeth pulled at bootcamp if they have all of them still? I know my fiance still had his - so I've been curiously wondering if they pulled them out - which might I add find insanely absurd, considering that training has nothing to do with your wisdom teeth....I don't get it?
Happy Monday ladies, lets hope this is a week filled with more letters and some phone calls!! :)
Denise, I agree with diannep and if you can fly Southwest from where you are, they do fly into Milwaukee. Sometimes their prices are more affordable and you are also allowed 2 free checked bags, which saves money. If for some reason (very are, though) that you would have to change your flight, they will do it free of charge. There is no need to buy a refundable ticket or purchase flight insurance with Southwest.
tracd93, my daughter's letter was dated 9/19 and she wrote that " tomorrow we finally start 1-1" which would have been the 20th, if I'm reading it right.
Good Morning everyone :-)
Denise: A couple of the N4Moms veterans flew into Milwaukee and said it was wonderful. Never heard of traffic coming from there. Other ladies who have flown into Midway occasionally have horror stories of the Chicago traffic and how long it took them. One lady hit really bad traffic from Midway and it took her 2 hours to get to GL. The longest we have heard it taking from Milwaukee is 45 minutes. Car rental is cheaper there too. So Milwaukee is better in our opinion.
