For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Only 43 more days!

Comment by Juliette on September 26, 2012 at 11:30am: i know it's way harder on them - sometimes it's just hard to keep happy...especially when you're missing someone like crazy. i find myself sobbing like he's never going to return - hard to cope with sometimes....my mood will lift once i hear from him - that's all i'm anticipating right now!

Stay focused on forthcoming letters and PIR and remember to stay upbeat and supportive in your letters. They are in good hands but have alot to learn in these weeks. Stay on here for support, last night I cried while walking the dog wearing my SR's hoodie because it smelled like him, its normal to miss them and cry and have that feeling in your stomach that just plain hurts, thank God we have each other. HUGS

I hate being so far in the dark about what he's doing....it's becoming very depressing. I know it's supposed to get better, but as more time goes by without communication it gets harder...:(

Comment by Jodi-alumni Ship 4 on September 26, 2012 at 10:23am: Just remember that sometimes those first letters are depressing or sad but don't let that get you upset. Most of them are away from home for the first time and are feeling it. By the second letter the division is starting to come together (meaning less PT because someone messed up-with my son's division some of the guys didn't know how to "shut up and pay attention") and the letters start to get more positive. By the end of bootcamp they are excited and proud. Hope you all get letters soon.
