Lala....yes, the news of the devastation up north is heartbreaking. The only solace is that had the areas not prepared, it could have been so much worse. It is just amazing that a storm packing such devastation has hit such a large area....prayers for all there that cleanup starts right away and power gets restored soon. Having been devastated down here by Hurricane Andrew back in 1992, 3 weeks with no power in August(HOTTT!)...and a year of rebuilding...my family knows the horror of this...but we are living proof that life can be great again! Blessings to those families affected, and special prayers for those who lost loved ones and friends.
LRNavyMom: Hmmmm...I bet it is just 50 miles, not quite 53, in which case...no problem! :-) If you are worried that it truly is 3 miles out of range, any chance that his great grandparents can meet you at a restaurant a few miles closer? I sure hope it works out!
Phasing has no bearing on rate or pay scale, it is strictly on time at the base. Sailors can also be "knocked doewn" in phase if rules are broken etc.
Phase I is for sailors who have just arrived. They are required to wear their uniforms at all times outside of their barracks, are not allowed to leave base and are required to muster three times each day.
Phase II sailors have been at the school for an average of 2-6 weeks. They can wear civilian clothes and they can go off-base - only with a liberty buddy. They are not allowed to stay out overnight.
Phase III are sailors who have been at the school approximately 4-12 weeks and have shown personal responsibility. They no longer have to attend evening muster and can stay out overnight.
Student sailors may be "phased back" or denied the next phase if they fail inspections, miss PT or morning muster or otherwise get in trouble. Even while in Phase III, there may be certain cities they are not allowed to go to.
This is just basic info and it can very from base to base.
Thanks for the prayers for Brett. He had a day of rest today...not really responsive to his dad who was there with him, but it was intended to be a day of rest and it was. He was stable (still critical condition in Trauma ICU but vitals stable). Abdomen possibly will be "closed up" tomorrow after being open now for two weeks...one step at a time.
If anyone plans to give blood in the near future, ask where you go if you can specify a "designated donation" in honor of Brett. This doesn't mean that he will get the blood, but they may send a card to Brett saying that you donated blood in his honor. If you would like to do this, just say it is for Brett Parks at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville FL. I know Brett would love to hear from the people who have been so faithfully praying for him. He can't read these cards yet, but we are hoping that he will be able to soon.
mrs.jane.rad: I agree with Lala. Phasing up doesn't have to do with their rate. They all have to follow the rules, etc, to phase up to the next level.
They have different phases they go through in A-school, phase 1 is usually 1 to 2 weeks but could be longer. It doesn't matter if they are E-1 or E-3 they all have to phase up the same way. During phase 1 they learn all the rules of the base and have other classes on finance and lots of other stuff they have to learn.
I know that my husband signed up as an E3 do they phase up right after PIR or after A school?
LrNavyMom, Is there anyway someone could bring them to the hotel the night before PIR, and have them spend the night, and take them back Friday evening? Or possibly you could find a restaurant or something not too far from them, but closer to base where you all could meet. Even if someone could go pick them up and bring them the few miles toward base.
The problem here is the new sailors have not phased up yet. Until they are at least phase 2, they are not even allowed off base, PIR weekend is the exception for them.
I just don't know if it is possible to take him further than the 50 miles (and they are strict on that.
I am also really hoping my Husband can got to Milwaukee to visit with friends and family. We really dont know when his A school starts, but we know it will be in Biloxi Mississippi. We're also waiting to figure out how that will work for me. I am trying hard not to stress out, but it's a lot easier when I read about the terrible destruction of Sandy and reading about brett. I'm praying everyone on here is safe and that Brett recovers, it sounds like there is some good news in there!
