WELCOME TO PIR 11/09/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We made it through without any snow so far. We may get a little tonight but it won't be a big deal at all. Some of the higher elevations got 12 inches or more but like many of them said on the local news that is nothing and not hard to deal with at all compared to what so many others are going through. Just watching the news completely breaks my heart. So much devastation and so many homes lost. We will be packing up items to send to our northern neighbors. And they all will be in our prayers.

For those that don't have Sailors staying in GL for A school:

I have to change my "After PIR post..." ...just saw recently that a mom posted that she had to wait for several hours on RTC for her Sailor after PIR. Usually, those that attend A school anywhere other than GL have been able to leave directly after PIR. The exceptions that we knew about were those unfortunates that had watch directly after (and some may have their Liberty interrupted to return for watch :-/) There are only about 50+ Divisions at RTC right now, so new Sailors may have to stand watch at RTC. She stated that many were delayed for other reasons as well. This is not to panic you but to prepare you. Just in case your Sailor says he will be back within 30 minutes or so and is delayed. I would plan to meet them at the NEX so you have a place to stay out of the elements.

The Family Guide does state this:

Your Sailor will receive guidance from their Recruit Division Commander regarding their liberty period on the day of graduation. Your Sailor may be required to check out with their RDC prior to commencing liberty. Please ensure you return to RTC with adequate time for your Sailor to reach his barracks prior to expiration of liberty.

RTC does not have your Recruits liberty or travel schedule, so you will need to stay in contact with them. Only your Recruit and their supervisor know their specific

liberty schedule.

For those of you that have sailors staying in GL for A School.

On Friday after PIR you will have about an hour with them before the have to go back to their ship to pack up and move to the TSC side for school. This process can take several hours. Be sure you have a way for your sailor to let you know when he/she is ready to leave for liberty. Calls that they can leave usually come between 2:30 and 5pm.

They will have until approx 10pm (time may vary) on Friday before they must be back to their ship. THEY CANNOT BE LATE! If they have to walk back it is quite the distance, allow them plenty of time.

Keep your gate pass from PIR as you may be able to use that to drive them back to their ship that night.

They should also have liberty on Sat and Sun from approx 6am to 10pm (these hours can vary). On Sat and Sun they will call when they can leave and you will meet them at the main gate (by the visitors center). When you meet them at the gate you must go back to their ship with them and check them out. Again, your PIR pass may allow you to drive them back to their ship to check them out. If you cannot drive them back you must walk back with them to do so.You cannot drive on to base without them in the car with you.

When they return at night you must also check them back in. THEY CANNPT BE LATE! The same person who checks them out must also be the one to check them back in!

They will be instructed on all of their liberty rules, please be mindful that they must follow them. There are PDA rules, limits on distances they can go (they must stay within 50 miles of base), no drinking, smoking etc.

If you can and weather permitting (for you and them) get to the gate early, you can hear all the new sailors and their ships cadence as they march from their ships to the gate. It is fun to listen to them coming and watch them march down the street to the gate (you can hear them coming a long way from the gate).

If you are there and your sailor had called you, hearing the cadences starting in the distance, and waiting and wondering if that is your sailors group, is almost as exciting as waiting for them to march through the door at PIR.

Y'all are in for a great weekend next week!

UPDATE on Bret this morning:  Restful night, ventilator is gone, trach is in (more comfortable now), responded to commands earlier from nurses, but was "out" when wife visited him...resting comfortably.

Yes, FTLW, should have clarified that....PRAISE that they saved his leg down to about halfway between knee/ankle.  Pray that they won't have to take any more of the leg...that the remainder of it will respond to treatment.

Thanks so much for continued prayers, ladies!

Yes, true, Soupercook/Sundown:  Not likely to get calls before the I'm a Sailor calls at this point since you all are starting your BattleStations later this week, finishing next week.  But that call is worth the wait!  It is longer and very exciting!

Good Morning All!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 30, 2012 at 1:19am

diannep - Just read the update. They did not have to take his whole leg. Joy in sorrow! I pray that his healing will progress rapidly now.
