Hi all!  This is a discussion I've started for the families with recruits in Ship 2, Div 952.  Of course anyone can join, but this will help those of us in this specific group get to know each other.

My husband, who was also in the Navy, says Hell week is the worst one, because they must go thru the gas chamber and it makes them throw up. He told my son not to hold his breath cause it just prolongs the agony...best to just take a deep breath and get it over with cause they are gonna throw up anyway. I'm not sure my son will be able to do that as I'm sure it's human nature to hold your breath. And I agree, Mom from St Pete, our boys will be fine. They are tougher than they think. And God never gives us a burden we can't bear. I sent that reminder to Drew. I hope he gets it before the chamber. Hang in there Moms.
I also rec'd a letter today. He has sounded down in most of his letters but in this one he was starting to talk about being finished. I think he is starting to see the end and is definitely looking forward to it.
Mom from St Pete ~ I think I was in the same place a few days ago that you are in now. None of us are bad moms, we just question and worry about the things we have no control over. Your son is going to make it through and so is mine. We believe in them more than ever and they will believe in themselves. The next time you hear from him it will be to tell you he is doing great!
Last night and early this morning I wrote him a letter of great encouragement with lots of Love in it. I even hand wrote at the end a cheer we use to say back when I was in high school.LOL... I sent it out this morning. I am sure by the time he gets it all of this will be finished, but it sure made me feel 100% better!! Some times u have to get it all out on the table and then breath deeply..... He said hell week was a lot of tests I did not know about the gas chamber one. Does not sound like much fun to me... I feel like he will do just fine. I also told him weeks ago about God not giving him more then he could handle.....
I threw up all over my gas mask when I went to boot camp. The whole company did! The gas chamber is pretty horrible, but they can do it! And they will tell stories about it for years to come. I still remember it like it happened yesterday and it was 25 years ago! We moms are the worst worriers! My son didn't say a thing about hell week either and now I'm worried with you all too! Send us your cheer mom from st. pete and we can all use it.
Have any of you determined where is the best place to stay for graduation? I only have a couple days off work and don't have much time to plan. Thanks
I'm staying at the Residence Inn. It seems to have good rates and a shuttle to PIR for $6 round trip.
Diana, I sent your hubbys name to be put on the list for PIR. Hope it gets there. Haven't gotten a call or letter this week and I''m worried they may have done his wisdom teeth. I sure hope not. But I have no way to find out. Also, I got the day off to go to graduation and I'm so thrilled.
Thank you so much for the info.
We're staying at Homewood Suites, which is near the Residence Inn I think. We're bringing along our son's girlfriend and we thought our own "areas" would be less awkward! :) We found out that the Corpsman A school is being moved to San Antonio, but don't know if it affects our sailor. Some are still staying at GL, which is great for us since we live only 3 hours from there. We were thinking we could prolong the seperation! Now I have something entirely new to fret about. ( I am a world class fretter, so I am always looking for something new to fret over! HA) My son's friend stopped by yesterday and he leaves for bc on Nov. 19, so they are missing each other by one weekend!
Have a great weekend all!
You can do it, you can do it, If you put your mind to it.
Buckle down, buckle down, do it, do it, do it....
LOL. This was lots of years ago... Any how I felt great writing it to him. He needs all I can give him in the letters:) I also told him to study, study, study make us proud..... Go Navy.....
When I wake up in the morning it will only be 20 days to PIR......
Love the cheer! I'm sending it. 20 days, or as my NAvy hubby says, 19 and a wake-up!
Only 18 days to go ladies!!!!!!! HOOYAH!
