OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

It is my understanding that they automatically deduct $150 of their funds (payroll) and deposit it in a NEX account, for them to use for their wanted or other items. I will have to write my SR to see if this is the case : )

..."when the Recruits arrive at RTC there is a lot of intake and processing and then they are assigned to their divisions. As I understand it, they are first asked if anyone has prior experiance with N/ROTC, Band, or other musical skills or leadership. Those who do AND who have high ASVAB scores tend to be chosen to be placed in a 900 Division. There is usually only one of these Divs per TG (Training Group) consisting of multiple divisions which graduate together on the same date.
The 900s are the ones tasked with helping to run the PIR (Pass in Review-i.e. Graduation) ceremony. Each incoming 900 Div is given one of three support roles on a constantly rotating basis, i.e. Ship Staff-non musical, includes the graduating Honor Guard Rifle Drill Team, Flags-presents US, States, POW/MIA, and finally Triple Threat-musical, the Jr. Drill team, Bluejacket Band and Choir and Drum Corps. If they see that he has the qualifications, he may be chosen to be assigned, just depends on where they are in the rotation, among other factors. There will be other Navy opportunities beyond BC that he can indicate his interest in and offer his talents to as well. :) "

The staying connected with other N4Ms is truly helping with my "missing my son times."
My profile picture is a special item that my son gave me several months ago. I carry it with me all the time. My special item that goes with me ~ since he can't. He thinks it is funny!

Suggestions from other N4M members regarding PIR:
Take binoculars
Ask your sailor to set up a meeting spot within the hall. I guess it gets hectic when Liberty is called.
(I am not sure how our performing group returns their flags, etc. before Liberty.)
Be prepared! Some have experienced a non-Grad N Go status to be changed right up to PIR. This could mean a minimal visit at Great Lakes, spending most of your time at the airport.
Picture experiences: They are ordered by our sons and daughters to be picked up at the NEX PIR weekend. Experience prices ranged from $147 to $250 (with DVD).
Each Division designs a flag. Flag design items (sweat shirts, t-shirts,etc) can be purchased at the NEX.
"A" School note - civilian clothes are not worn immediately. Expereince by the attending families said they are weaned in within about two (2) weeks. It was stated they earn this right.
Most of their Sailors wanted to get out and see Chicago.
Christine gave us some great information regarding our seating ~ We sat directly to the left of the review stage. There should be signs with the divisions numbers where they will be and parents are encouraged to sit in that area across from where their division will be. There will be recruits from future graduating divisions to help with questions about seating areas. They are very polite young men and women. Don't forget to tell your son to order the PIR DVD and division "yearbook" when he orders his portraits.

DAVIDSmom ~ My eyes are drooling! lol It is great to receive upbeat and positive letters. I am glad he smiled! When my son laughed at a card he received, he had to do 100 jumping jacks. Tomorrow I am going to do 100 before I send the next card : )
All three (Mom, Dad, & Sister) letters contained the humor we love and missed! I received a drawing of the PIR formation. I am sorry that I could not see which SRs were yours, as they were just little dots with arrows! On Sunday, 10/25; "25 more days. It will go fast!" I hope all went well for them this past week! I can't wait to see the pictures with the BCGs! It seemed like November was never going to come! I do know that Norah Jones XXXXXX (last name withheld for security reasons) - our dog - will be happy that she does not have to listen to me cry in the shower!
I was told by some that they have Battle Stations early due to their PIR commitments. If you look up ^ you will see a picture of a group being congratulated after their Battle Station 21 and with their Navy hats. I believe the caption was July, 2009.
arlietz ~ Can you imagine sleeping in a room with the lights turned out...then the red lights turned on? It was described to me as the nocturnal exhibits at the zoo. It sounds like a hospital stay...always comotion and talking. ~ kk
JulieR ~ Yep! "One week of hell!" But the description was all about positive and fun stuff. Please do not think our recent comments were negative toward female Sailors. If I were younger (much-much), I would be there! I am glad to hear that your daughter understands the reasons for the lack of team work. I also bet the male SRs see who the problems are and support the female SRs (your daughter included) that do not fall into this behavior. Are you excited? I am! ~ kk

I posted the following on the "all divisions" page today...
Stephanie-Texas Ship 07 Div 003 ~ I am confused with your suggestion. Do you mean all PIR 11/20 should be combined? Was you comment "thread" specific? The Ship 06 Div 901 page was set up to be specific to the division. Our group/page name will be changed later to accomodate the Alum of Ship 06 Div 901. Since not all divisions are run the same, this works for us. Maybe the other "thread" you are speaking of would want to start their own Ship/Division page. The PIR 11/20/2009 has seven (7) divisions at approximatley 88 each. ~ kk

The schedule that I was informed of for 10/26 through 10/30; Monday was Marlinspike (also known as fun stuff!), Tuesday was PFA, Personal Inspection, and weapons turnover inspection, , Wednesday was Zone Inspection, Thursday (today) was Live Fire Range, and Friday (tomorrow) is Drill Inspection, tailoring, and photos.
Do you know what this means? Yes! They are on the home stretch : ) ~ (smiling with tears).

Yes, I have heard that the male/female divisions, unfortunately, have issues. In the workforce, the males are NOT tolerant of the lack of team work or cat-like issues the females create. Hence, they will not be as accommodating to them. It is hard enough to miss our young adults (male & female) - to realize others are "not playing nice or running with scissors." ~ kk

Regarding Battle Stations ~ I have read that the 900 series divisons do Battle Stations earlier than the other divisions with the same PIR. If any Divison 901 N4M members get the dates, please post.
