My son is on Ship 3/Div 017, no letter or phone call yet? I know he didn't leave until Sept. 27, so hasn't been gone 3 weeks yet. Hopefully will hear from him this week.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. So, they have mail call everyday or is it just once a week?
Thank you so much for the info lala and diannep. I just wasn't sure how all that would play out for SR's that are undesignated.
It can sometimes be the 3rd or 4th Sunday they are there before they actually get to write letters. I would expect a lot more letters this week. I know it is hard waiting so long but just know they are super busy, working hard, and getting closer and closer to PIR every day. Keep writing every day if you can they love hearing their name at mail call and will be begging for more letters when you finally hear from them :-)
Hi ladies, sorry I've been off the site for a couple of weeks. I had to deal with some stuff here.
GoNavy, I totally agree with Lala about them having a difficult adjustment in the beginning. There is always a phase where the SR's are getting yelled at all the time, for the least little thing and some may even be getting some IT. I'm sure that the stress could cause a lot of tension between them as well. You will be amazed at how soon they will start to work together and get it all on track. When my son was in boot camp, I always did try to remember that by the time I received his letters, it had been a few days and all the emotions that he expressed in those letters may have already changed. They are very exhausted when they write their letters, so they are also very emotional too. It's probably safe to say that by the next day, things may have been much better. Try to hold onto that thought. The divisions really start to get things on track by about the 3 or 4th week, so they are getting close to that time now. The change by then will be very dramatic.
I know it's hard not to worry GoNavy, but it is very common for the divisions to struggle in the beginning. It happens to almost every division. They will get it all figured out and be working together as a team by the end. Hang in there :-)
I got my first letter from my SR Friday, Oct 12. His letter reflected how difficult things are going for his Div. Said they have been getting in trouble for not following instructions and doing chores correctly. I cried so hard because he said the pressure is really getting to many of the SRs. He said some fights almost broke out the night before he wrote the letter to me. OMG, I am just so worried about him. He sounded so stressed. He tried to make some positive comments at the end of the letter, but I don't know if his spirit is actually positive. I responded with a 10 page letter giving him encouragemnet, hope and positive direction. When will it start getting better for them.... he sounded so desperate. I feel like I am falling to pieces. He left for BC Sept. 24, so far all I have received is the I'm here call, box and form letter and one personal letter from him. Starting week 4 now and praying he will be allowed his I'm still alive call.
Yes, I agree, Lala. Undesignated sailors usually get to have "leave" before they are sent to their ship. I know of several undesignated that had that happen.
proudnavymom: So glad that you are writing to others not receiving mail. I know they greatly appreciate it!
mawhinney: Yes, very normal this early in the "game" to be a bit down emotionally and homesick for the SRs. Lots of "breaking down" of the SRs still going on here, but "build back up" starts soon and that is when they get so much more positive!
Good Morning Ladies!
Tammy they would go to a very short A-school depending on what field they are in for instance Undesignated Airman etc. They they go to their first command/base/ship and start working. I think they get to come home after the short A-school but I am not positive on that.
