WELCOME to PIR 11/21/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Meant "one reason it is PROBABLY held off..." I don't KNOW exactly!
(BTW...not shouting...on phone and no italic type!)

Be prepared for that first call to be an emotional one. One reason why it is held off for a few weeks...most are homesick enough and it is good for them to be somewhat settled into the new routine before a flood of emotions.
Try not to cry (too much! I burst into tears as soon as I hung up!) as you don't know how long it will be and could spend the time crying. Let them talk...remember there isn't much talking at BC. Maybe jot down a few questions that are important to you.

BMLMOM - Calls vary greatly. Hopefully not 28 seconds again though!
I would say the average (if you wanted to pin me down!) would be thirty minutes...granted. It can get cut short, but not always.
Why? Again, lots of reasons. Time runs out, someone messes up while they are on the phones so it gets cut short or taken away, etc.
Then there are the times where it all goes smooth and you get a nice long time. Usually the last call...The Sailor call...is the longest.

Kirsi - When my son was at boot he took his glasses. He was allowed to.keep them and store them. So hopefully your recruit has his. :-)
If they had been current in his prescription he would have been able to wear them at PIR.

pinkpuddles - That is great that you got the letter.  I am happy that your son is doing good. Thank you also for the saying about Ship 13 Div 016 doing ok also.  I just want that letter too.  I hope you get another one soon.  I think that some may get calls this week or next, just from what I read on all of the links.  That would be really nice.  I write my phone number in my letters just in case.  I know without my cell phone I would not know #'s ..

beckybec - still waiting to get my 1st letter. I hopefully will feel a lot better when I do.  I cry so easy.  I can't wait to board that plane.. They already have some snow in the area.

Veteran moms: when we get the 3 week call, how long are they allowed to talk? Is it another 28 seconds or longer?
Comment by Pudsey26 on October 13, 2012 at 10:18am
Becky I am so glad you're getting better. I am stuck right smack in anger and hurt still that I can't go a day without weeping like a madwoman. I think once I hear from her I can start putting my life back together but who knows when that'll be. This waiting is awful. It'll just kill me too if she hates it there. I'm hoping she likes it like yours pink. Good to know someone does.
