Pudsey26..you should have got the form letter by now and the box a couple of days your SR left..but i am not sure who you could call this!
ellen0502...that's something new I did not know...about them being numbered like on a Ship. Cool beans and makes sense!
There are 12 Divisions per "Ship". The Ships/barracks/buildings are three floors high and have 4 Divisions per floor. Each has a Quarterdeck (That's a clickable link to a wiki definition. Think "lobby" but it is much ,muchmore) and a Galley (chow hall).
Here are some pics courtesy of Craig who is retired Navy and runs NavvyDEP.com: (he does some "funnies" with it but I don't want to steal those...I'm not in his league!)
The Galley (chow hall) is in the left building, the center is the Quarter Deck, and the right is the sleeping Compartments.
This is the overall picture of the sleeping compartment.
Here is the end of the building. On the end, right in the middle, is where your recruits will normally enter the building. If they are in a group of 10 or less they will enter the building through the Quarterdeck. There are two division per side, so 4 division per floor. There are 3 floors. So you have 4 x 3 = 12 divisions per ship. Lastly, even though you think they have windows, they don't. They are all frosted so the recruits can't see out. The only area that has clear window is the offices.
Kellyd - Your letter from your sounds very "normal"! I would say that when reading it after all this time on here that he is"right on track".
The yelling should slow down after about the fourth training week as the recruits start to "get it" and also as they start to gel as a division.
As per the PT tests that diannep was talking about. They have three PFA's during BC. Physical Fitness Assessment. The first one they take early on is kind of like a baseline...to see where they are at. Then they know what their "areas" are that need to be worked on more and cen focus on them.
All recrutis will take all three PFA's...even if they pass the first and/or second one...they take all three. The one that everyone has to take and everyone has to pass is the last one in Training Week 6.
Here is info from RTC website on PT at BC:
http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pt.asp
BTW all military personnel (all branches, active and reserve) are required to take PFA's (they may call it something different in each branch) twice a year for their entire career. They must pass them.
Males and Females are on the same ship, and each ship has separate compartments. I don't remember how many compartments are in each ship, but I am thinking it is eight (don't quote me :)). Those compartments are also numbered as though your SRs were actually on a ship.
KristineLynn: You are very welcome. We all love helping!
Kelly: It is very early in bootcamp so don't worry about the run right now. They keep practicing and will take the test 2 more times.
Proud to announce I got my first letter yesterday!! Boy was I Delighted and he said he was doing just fine. He mentioned how good the food was and the fact that he's meeting alot of neat people. That made my heart jump for joy. Wishing all the other mom's good letters and communication from their recruit.
BCG's are the military glasses they get issued in BC. They usually may not wear their personal glasses in Boot Camp. (I believe it IS possible if they are evry similar to the military issued as long as the perscription is current...but do not have a confirmation on this)
BCG is an acronym for Birth Control Glasses...because they make you look so ugly that no one would want to "date" you!
Those were the old ones...now they have new ones that are much nicer...but tradition prevails :-)
Old BCG
New BCG
Kellyd, your son and mine are together....I am praying I get a letter today, I could REALLY use a little pick me up.
