WELCOME to PIR 11/21/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thetwoj - So sorry to hear that the headaches for bad for your son. Please don't feel embarrassed. Nor should he. Like it was already said, he gave it a shot. It could have very well have been just fine and he should be proud that he went forward and enlisted. I hope he does better once home. Thank him for wanting to serve in the Navy. There will be another path for him.

Thetwoj, I am so sorry for you and for him.  But please dont put your head down and certainly not his, and never be embarrased.  He gave it a shot, God has other plans for him, whatever those plans may be God will shine down on him and you.  Thanks for being so great, I loved talking with you over the past few weeks.

He should hold his head high! His intentions were good and he gave his every effort to complete the training, there should be no shame in that. I hope the headaches subside now that he's going home.  Thank him for his efforts and he is still respected for trying.  Prayers for both of you.

Ladies, it has been a pleasure speaking with you all over the last few days, however my son just called with the horrible "Bad News" and he is being medically discharged for suffering from cluster migriane headaches. He's always had them, but the stress was making them much worse and they ended his Navy career today. I'm sad, and a little embarrassed, but I have to just hold on to the knowledge that God has a plan and this just wasn't it. Good luck to all of you, and be proud that your children are serving their nation well. God Bless.

I was going business casual for meet and greet. More casual. For graduation I am wearing a suit. I may even buy a new one I am so proud. They will look so sharp and I want to honor them. I wear suits everyday so not a big deal for me:-)

Yes Dianne, my daughter had PIR July 2010 and they were allowed to stay over night then but my daughter was going to Pensacola on a Chartered flight so we were not that lucky. It changed not long after that at all. I wish all families could spend the whole weekend with their Sailors. It would be great for the economy up there :-)

Comment by Thetwoj on October 9, 2012 at 9:18am

I'm seeing comments from people that live outside of Illinois that they are having financial hardships about coming in for PIR. I live about an hour and a half from GL Base (approx. 60 miles) and hate the idea that anyone would have to miss seeing their child PIR, so if this is a problem for you please friend me and we will find you a place to stay for free. My friends and family will adopt you for those days. It's a bit of a drive, but it's better than not going at all.

Yes, Lala, when I first started helping out on the PIR sites back in early 2010, the GL A School students were usually allowed overnight liberty during PIR weekend.  If I remember correctly, that was changed in the summer of 2010.  Maybe a little later than that.  I remember being on some of the PIR groups and the first group that was changed to no overnight liberty was so disappointed, as you can imagine.

The Navy is all about CHANGE and staying FLEXIBLE!  I also was told that years ago, they used to have a Family Night the night before PIR where families could be with their sailors.  Sigh.....that has changed too.
