WELCOME to PIR 11/21/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everyone, I will be away most of the day. I have to take our college girl back to Charlotte to meet her roommate and head back to UNCW. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Some of the things that have changed about bootcamp I would love to see again, like longer weekends with families :-) Those staying in GL often got to spend the whole weekend with their families including the nights. Things change, sigh....

Thanks for your input, DancingSailor, but I agree with FTLW.  I have been on the PIR groups now since 2009.  There have been many changes.  One is that none leave on PIR day anymore---most do fly out the next day.  And, yes, FTLW is correct....they must finish all of these tests before they can do BattleStations...and if they fail their PFA, they are put in FIT until they pass....which they can do before PIR and therefore attend their graduation, or they may not pass until after PIR, which means they then do BattleStations and head straight to A School.

I have heard before that some of the Spec Ops divisions occasionally finish "extra" training after PIR, but haven't even heard of that recently.

And it is true that all of the GL A School sailors now move over to that base about an hour after PIR concludes.

Of course, any of this can change in a heartbeat!  As you know being a part of the Navy yourself, the Navy is all about CHANGE!

Are you still in the Navy now, or have you completed your service?  Thank you for your service!  Any insight you can give the ladies about the actual training situations there would be greatly appreciated on here!

kvece1005, Call Sarge 847-212-0246, he will take good care of you. He runs a taxi service and also hosts probably the most informative and best Meet and Greet (in my opinion). He will take you under his wing and help you.

He is a great person, full of information, help and answers. My son and his buddies at A School call him when they need a taxi, they like him the best. :)

Here is a link to his profile page you can message him here too.

If your sailor is staying in GL for A School you will have approx and hour after PIR with them before they have to report back to their ship on the RTC side (they usually have to be back by noon and it is a hike for them).  They pack the things they have from BC and are bussed over to the TSC side, check into their ship etc before they can leave for liberty. This process can take several hours, but be prepared for them to call you anytime from about 2:30pm to 5pm telling you they can leave.

They may also have liberty every day through Sunday, although they must report back to base every night. They will not be able to stay out overnight as they have not phased up.

I will try and find out a little more information this week about how exactly it will work for your sailors, being it is a holiday weekend. I don't think much will be different than normal other than a few extra days with you sailor, but I will find out.

I am very sorry Dancing Sailor...but it changes from year to year it seems.

Last years PIR at this time only had 4 Divisions and many left on Friday.

Sailors have not flown out to "A" schools on PIR day for the time I have been on here (since May of 2011) The other veteran Moms have been on between 2-3 years so maybe they have insight on that.

Recruits must finish and pass all academic and physical requirements before they are allowed to Battlestations (their final test which when passed they are now Sailors), and attend PIR. If they do not they will be held back and required to finish before being allowed to Battlestations...thus possibly (if they do not do BS21 before there PIR...there are more details for that IF it were to happen, but not right now :-D) changing their PIR date.

I am sorry I have never seen any finish mandatory requirements after their PIR date while still being a part of that PIR date.

Occassionally, we have seen some that are retained at RTC (after they are Sailors) "on hold" for medical clearances before going on to  their A schools.

Grad-n-Go is an obsolete term (for over a year now) and RTC now does not call the different departing Sailors anything :-)  The reason they got rid of it is that it had too many meanings over the years and was too confusing.
