sry i am a bit behind in all of this, for the graduating sailors that are staying in gl for A school, will they be free on thanksgiving day? i would like to know this before i book my flight, and i see i am late already
I am so thankful that I did make a reservation to arrive early in the day on Tuesday, so that I could attend the Meet and Greet..
@diannep - Thank you for the information. I did not know there were 3. I did speak to Sarge a few times yesterday. I have already hired his service to pick me up at the airport. His event sounds wonderful, and I would not miss it.. I am excited to meet everyone that I have been talking to and go to the event .. Sarge is very nice and helpful on the phone.. He is so busy but he really takes his time.
I googled having Thanksgiving in Chicago and I got at least 10 restraunts with prices and descriptions. It was very helpful..
diannep: Txs for all the info! Maybe we could meet for coffe sometime?
proudnavymom12: My son is also in ship 03/ div 018. i guess they are together and hopefully supporting eachother. I still have not received my form letter, but i hv plane tckets and im ready to go.
debnchris: There was an error in the date of PIR in the form letters...it is actually Wed, the 21st, not Fri, the 23rd, so it is a good thing that you are coming in on Tues!
...all of the MeetandGreets are "family friendly" so bring the kids!
debnchris: There are actually 3 MeetandGreets on the night before PIR. The one we always recommend is Sarge's. His is near SpringhillSuites, Courtyard Inn, and Residence Inn--near the giant Walmart shopping center. I believe Ramada isn't far away either (but they have their own MeetandGreet). Sarge's has great food (he only asks for any donations put in a donation box he has there since he pays for it out of his own pocket) and wonderful complete info.
FTLW will be posting MeetandGreet info at the top of this page (watch for the yellow smiley faces) when it gets a little closer to time!
Ctownmom: As it gets closer to time and after you book your hotel, ask the hotel staff. Seems that last year, restaurants in the area were advertising that they would be serving Thanksgiving dinner. I know when we checked into Residence Inn when we were up there, the hotel gave us a list restaurants, attractions, etc in the area, so hopefully they will be helpful with that.
Another resource would be to contact SARGE (he has one of the MeetandGreets and has a transportation service to/from the airport for Navy families, and around town too). He has been in the area for over 30 yrs, is retired military, and very helpful. So keep his number handy and feel free to contact him by text or call with any questions.
