WELCOME to PIR 11/21/2012!

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

To all the veteran moms and locals out there... Any ideas where we can take our sailor for a decent Thanksgiving meal? Buffet or sit down? Since we having never been to Chicago area before so we are at a complete loss but we would like to be able to have something close to our home cooked Thanksgiving dinners.

My son shipped Sept 26th. - Ship 13 Div 016... Who is going to the meet and greet?  I think it is going to be a great evening with a lot of great information.  I have my flight for arriving on Tuesday even tho the form ltr of course says the PIR is the day after Thanksgiving..

I just received my form letter today. With PIR 11/21. My son is in ship 03/ Div. 018. Would love to meet other parents from the dame group! Looking forward to meeting all of you. This is so exciting!

TheMom:  The date was wrong in the form letters...it is Wed, Nov 21st.

Victoria's Mom:  Your SR will know the password in the form letter, so ask in a letter or in a phone call home!

Ajrydson:  Girls/guys in the same division=integrated division!  They train together, but thankfully (to US!) have separate barracks!  :-)

My son was there for Thanksgiving in 2009 and they had Thanksgiving dinner on base too (he had just arrived that week).

Comment by diannep on October 5, 2012 at 9:53pm

A point of interest:  Those in the later PIR groups, behind yours, will be able to attend Thanksgiving dinners put on by churches, etc.  Those who are more recent arrivals will not be allowed to leave base.  Some families who live close to the base will be able to "adopt" their SRs for that day to have Thanksgiving with them....and they can adopt a shipmate too.  Again, this is only for the PIR groups close to graduating.

Suggestion;  If anyone wants to cook Thanksgiving dinner for their sailors, book at Residence Inn Waukegan (full kitchens).  Navy Lodge also has kitchenettes.
