OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

tb2dari:  The sailors are bussed to the airport in the wee hours of the morning (around 1 or 2 a.m.) to wait for flights.  Some families get there earlier to wait for the busses; others meet up with their sailors in the USO (OHare) or in front of security (Midway since USO is past security).  Make sure your sailor has a phone card to call you if they need to. They may be able to borrow a cell from someone already there.  Your sailor goes with you to the airlines counter and with proper ID, you should be able to get a gate pass for each member of your group  (as long as there aren't too many in the group).

Yes, there should be some I'm a Sailor calls this afternoon.  Thought it would be 113/114/902, but then someone from 015/016 said they would be calling today---not all of those divisions could go the same night though.  So we are confused...phones handy for whoever may call.  Calls can start as early as 2 pm GL time.

Congrats mrehm!  Wonderful that she passed.

On behalf of the N4Moms veterans on here, we have enjoyed being able to help you all through your bootcamp journey!  Safe travel and enjoy PIR.  We will be posting hints for PIR....like....try to attend Sarge's MeetandGreet tomorrow night because he will have great PIR info for you.  AND....be EARLY leaving for PIR....gates open at 6:30 (remember, car lines will be long so be in line way before that)....PIR Hall opens at 7.  Takes a while to get through security and walk to PIR Hall.  We were on the 6:30 shuttle and it worked out great for us.  Shuttle is easy!  Drop off at front gate, pick back up at front gate.

I know this has been said a million times already but I just really want to thank all the moms, especially the veteran moms for all the extensive information and stories you so willingly provided. This website has been a saving grace for me since my son left. As the PIR draws nearer, I want to wish everyone a wonderful and safe trip. I am so proud of all the men and women serving our country. As for now, I sit patiently a wait for the "I'm a salior" call from my SR. Good luck everyone!

Can someone please tell me how the airport meet-up goes when they fly out for A school? I've read about getting a gate pass. Do we get that at the airport and does our sailor need to be with us?

Good evening, I am a member of the PIR 11/16/2012. Just thought I would drop in your group and wish you luck.  I just returned home from spending the weekend with my son because his A school is at Great Lakes.  It was an emotional and beautiful weekend.  Just make sure you get there early, we got there about 6:15 and had great seats. Bring tissues. Luck to your sailors.
