diannep, I am going to the airport, I am going to get every second I can get with my son. I have missed him so much. Does he have to wait at O'HARE to get us back with him. He and I have been talking about meeting places etc...He has no idea but some close family friends are going to drive to see him on Thanksgivning day for a few hours. He is going to be really surprised. I hope in a good way....LOL
Kellyd, hey I just responeded to your message. I have to tell you God really does work in the strangest ways. Had a terrible day at work and was driving to church and just wondering why the day had to be such crap and BAM the phone rang and it was my son with great news and he is so excited. It totally turned my day around.
vballmom: Some will take a few civilian clothes with them, but they can't wear these until they phase up. They can usually have their cellphones, laptops, ipods, etc.
pinkpuddles. They bus them all out to the airport in the wee hours to wait for flights. My son flew to Mississippi also....his flight was to leave at about 10, but was delayed a couple of times. So much so that they missed their connection in Atlanta and Delta put them up for the night...uh oh...sailors just out of bootcamp "on the loose" in Atlanta....sigh....but I hope they behaved themselves!
Just remember that you can visit with them at the airports!
Oh, the other thing my son said is anyone going to Mississipi for school will leave at the crack of dawn on Friday....so enjoy your sailors on Thanksgiving. He also said that this is his RDC first Captin Cup win so it was exciting for all of them!
navymomiveen - talked to my son tongiht Ship 13 - DIv 15 - they won Captins Cup. Not sure what all of that entails but he was pretty pumped up about it. He also got 2 hours to make phone calls and get on face book. I was so excited to hear from him. Cant wait to meet all of you awesome people next week. Specail shout out and thanks to dinnep and lemonate - you guys have done a fantastic job and gone way above what I ever expected. Thank you all its been great experiance. I may be back on this site, my yougest graduates HS this year and is thinking of following his big brothers footsteps. So proud of my boys! Hugs to everyone!
Does anyone know what we are allowed to bring or what items they may have after boot camp? Are they allowed any suvillion clothes? My son just asked me to bring socks & underwear.lol. I wanted to avoid having to mail those items later. Thanks.
NicolesMom: The sailors are issued a seabag, garment bag (uniforms), and a backpack. The seabag and garment bags are pretty big. It is probably best if she can see if she can incorporate what you are bringing her into some of this luggage rather than taking more. The seabags/garment bags will be checked luggage.
I'm in a state of constant changing of emotions. I am excited to go to graduation. I am nervous to fly. I am anxious about my son passing all of his tests and I am so daggone happy and proud of him. That said I want to thank all of you great ladies on here that I have had the pleasure of 'listening to' on the subject of our SR's. This is my first time and I was completely lost. But thanks to FTLW, Dawn Lewis, diannep, and all the others I would still be lost! However, I fouind you wonderful ladies after I made my travel plans. Now, I think my son will be alone on Thanksgiving. :-( I was told over and over that he would be flying out the day after PIR and I believed it. He even told me the same thing himself. Tried to change plans but was too late and way too expensive. Guess I'll just have to make the most out of the time we have after PIR. Tearfully wishing I had found you wonderful people earlier, but still want to give you all a great big THANK YOU!!
