OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. deboraho:  They can only mail them home if they pay for them....and even some of those who pay (like my son) decide to keep them and give them to family members right after PIR.  I have seen posts of ones who received them in the mail in previous groups...seems that they arrive just a few days before PIR.

Do anyone no of any transportation from downtown Chicago to base. I was told by Hertz rental car that they can not pick me up and bring me to them. And I drive to base from there?? This is a bunch of crap Im just saying lol. I would think it would be a group. Been that its a on going ceremony every week there on Base to pick families up. And it's ok to Charge. At least the families will feel as ease knowing their with Navy instead of a strange cab driver or sum of type transit in a strange city. Thanks# My opinion

There have been several people who have received letters like that from their recruits and they have called the PAO office and were told that no one would be flying out on Thanksgiving Day. Hopefully they are right. If they don't get their orders until a day or two before no one would even know when they all fly out. Plus with it being a holiday weekend it will be harder for them to get flights for them so I would think that maybe some of them won't fly out on Friday either. At least that is my hope for all of you :)

collins:  Wow, ok....so she is not staying in GL for A School then.  I was thinking that when you stated "transferring" before, it meant to GL A School. Sio she is flying out....

I know that RTC had stated before that all sailors flying out for A School would be flying out on Fri, the 23rd.  Hmmmmmm.  I checked last year's Thanksgiving PIR group.  They did not fly out on Thanksgiving...flew out the next day.  Of course, that doesn't mean much now....things can change.  But I just think that would be doubtful.

Did you call Public Affairs (847 688 2405) and ask them if anyone will be flying out to A School on Thanksgiving Day?  Maybe they can give you some info.  I just can't imagine they would do that...unless they had an issue getting flights on Friday and had to go on Thanksgiving.

I'm confused on grad ceremony starting at 8 am.  Have not heard of that before either---usually starts at 9 a.m..  And, it is only 90 minutes long, so not understanding why liberty doesn't start until 11:30 or 12.  Thinking that some of the RDCs may be giving info that is not quite correct?  Again, this is a question for the Public Affairs office.

Sorry, I know I have not been very helpful with this.  Just not sure what to tell you.  But please don't worry about the picture money.  I know you can pay for those after PIR.

Prayers for her shin splints, cold etc...hoping that since the letter was written several days ago that all is "better" now than when she wrote it.

Prayers!

diannep:  Whew, I didn't think the $263 cash in the mail sounded right or very safe right around the holidays. I'm not sure if I understood her letter correctly...she said,

"I'm still confused after we looked at the Yeoman's schedule for the next 2 weeks and we don't get our ticket orders until the day before graduation.  Also, it says grad. ceremony is @ 0800 Wednesday and Liberty starts at 1130-2100 that day then for Thursday it says transfer/detaching is at 0730, so I don't know if that means we fly out that day or what? :(  I'm going to be devastated if that's the case"

Can you shed some light and translate for this horrified Navy mom/nurse that is nauseous from her SR's description of her what her legs/feet look like...and yes I have a strong stomach but when it's your baby girl...sigh!!  She is one tough cookie, just worried as hell about her right now.

Comment by diannep on November 15, 2012 at 4:07pm

collins:  Yes, you can pay for the piks in the NEX after PIR.  She just won't be able to get them until you pay.  No problems!

She'll do fine in BattleStations.  It is amazing how "pumped" they are then....

She'll be transferring to A School on Thanksgiving DAY?  Really?  Strange....they usually transfer right after PIR....takes a few hours, then they get liberty with you until they have to be back that night.

Sure hope she feels better with her cold and stress fractures...poor thing.

PRAYING for your daughter and all the sailors going through battle stations over the next few days.  collinsnavygirlsmom - she is going to be awesome!

Kellyd, that must be what it is...I called to see if I could get him all set up before he left and they said no :(  but he could have cared less, i was the one stressing on it for him.

I just received a distressing letter from my SR dated 11/7...she is requesting cash for her pics by tomorrow 11/16!! I just emailed the pao@rtc to see if that is correct.  It is a large amount...does anyone know if we can just bring it to PIR next week?  Also, sounds like she may be transferring to A-school on Thursday :(  And she is sick with a cold and has stress fractures :( She is toughing it out for now...please pray that she makes it through battlestations...UGH, I think I need to go throw up now!!lol

Comment by diannep on November 15, 2012 at 3:37pm

...but they won't be today.  I don't want to get anyone's hopes up.  The PIR 11/16 group was still doing BattleStations last night and they usually don't mix the PIR groups.

Comment by diannep on November 15, 2012 at 3:35pm

No I'm a Sailor calls yet for this group, Brian'sMother.  Not today....but "very soon" for some of the divisions!
