OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

pinkpuddles:  Some will go out there early and be waiting for the busses from RTC when they arrive---but you would have to be there before 1 a.m. to make sure that you are there before the busses arrive.

However, you can meet up with your sailors in the USO.  At OHare, this is before security, so no problem.  But at Midway, it is past security so your sailor will need to meet you before security (they are allowed to do this).  Then he/she can go with you to the airlines counter and get gate passes for you (have ID for each person in your party).  You will then be allowed to go through security and wait at the gate with your sailor.

Can anyone tell us where we should meet at the airport. I thought that I read somewhere that if we meet in a certain place so we can sit with them til they depart.

I got a comment on my page asking me to post this info so here it is. I am sure it will help some of you. :)

Helpful Info for PIR:

If you are planning to drive to the base: don't line up in the far right lane the morning of PIR. That lane ends, so stay to the left of it and it will save you lots of wait time. You can also choose to stay in the far left lane and make a left turn in front of the gate at the base. Then drive down that street and make a U-turn. The wait time on that road is usually even less. If time allows check your route the day before PIR so you know exactly where you are going and how to get there.

When you get into the PIR Hall take some practice shots with your digital camera. Change your settings until you get the best pictures possible with the lighting and environment you are in. You can even try turning off your flash to see if that would produce the best pictures. Your pictures will come out much better and you will be glad you took the time to do it.

If you go to Gurnee Mills Mall keep track of the amount of time you have. That mall is huge and there are no pass through stores or hall ways to work as short cuts. It is Z shaped so if you start at one end you have to go back to where you started the same way you came. And, you don’t want to get your Sailor back to the base late.

If your Sailor tells you the day of PIR that they will be on a chartered flight you won’t get to meet them at the airport. They go straight from the base to the Jet and don’t come inside. This doesn’t happen very often but it did happen to us and we didn’t really say goodbye on Friday night because we thought we would have several hours with her at the airport. Had we known we wouldn’t see her at the airport our goodbye wood have been different and we wouldn’t have been at the airport searching for her.

DillonsMom:  They still have to "phase up" to have liberty off base.  Your son should find this out  (how long) once he moves over to A School base so hopefully you will have that info right after PIR---when you pick him up after he moved over there.

I will send you BattleStations info for 015.

Good Morning All!

Nicole's mom: professional apprenticeship career track, 3 areas: seaman, airman, or fireman. these are all different areas where sailors can get more training to fit different into different jobs. Here is a link for description on the seaman PACT training that my daughter is looking at:

http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/Graphic-Elements/Rating-Factsheets/SN-Prof...

and another link that shows the others as well:

http://www.navydep.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=234

I had to look this up before my daughter went to basic and then she requested it again.

Diannep... Question. If they are "undesignated" right now and going to A school at GL... Do they have Liberty on weekends? I'm planning something for my son and was wondering how it worked. Thank you in advance. :) and if its not too much trouble could you also send me BS dates for Ship 13 DIV 015 please and thank you. :)

Thank you for the information.

I totally agree, collins....thanks!  Thanks so much, Tammy!  So exciting to hear that today about Brett.  No update tonight....hopefully there will be one in the morning.

Nicole'sMom:  I believe this is the undesignated sailors program?  They are like apprentices until they find a job that they like that has an opening for them to go to school.  They go to A School in GL for 4 weeks, have "leave", and then head to a duty station/ship.

navymomiveen:  I will friend request you BattleStations info for 902.  Don't hit ACCEPT or the info line will go away.

Diannep, Can you tell me anything about pact school.  My daughter lost her first job as a aviation boatswain mate because she got ill on her first ship date.  They pulled her up a month later and after PIR  11/21 she is going to something called Pact.  I have no idea what this is. thanks
