heyma: Sadly, he won't know until right before PIR when his orders are issued after BattleStations and he receives his flight info. If you can stay until Sunday, it would be good. Chances are he is heading out on Saturday, but you would be able to meet him at the airport and with proper ID, get an airlines gate pass and wait at the gate with him until departure. So if you can't stay until Sunday, at least try to leave later Sat. night just in case. Sometimes they don't leave until Sunday, but most of the time, they are bussed to the airports late Fri night to wait for Sat. flights which can go on all day.
Good idea, jrk'smom!
Good Morning All !
diannep- Thank you! I think we will just use the shuttle from the Navy Lodge :)
CatMom, WOW!
I'm seeing LA to Milwaukee on SW as low as $149 one way.
(New England to SeaTac for $158. Maybe its time to visit CryptoGirl.}
liz,
Southwest has some fantastic "Wanna Get Away" rates right now!! You will fly into Midway in Chicago (MDW) 1 hour from RTC or Milwaukee (MKE) 40 minutes. Regular tickets have no change fee if you have to re-schedule and 2 bags checked for free!
robmomma,
Ask your SR what he wants to do after PIR. If he is flying out to A school, there won't really be alot of time to tour around. He will have to be back to base between 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, just depends on what his RDCs tell his division. If you choose to take the train to Chicago, you must not be late getting him back to RTC!
If he has A school at Great Lakes, then you wll have Friday afternoon/evening and all day Saturday and Sunday to spend with him~~
Judicita, Its NEVER to late to let others know how amazing it was to talk with your child =)
jrk'smom: There will be lots of signs pointing you in the right direction on PIR morning. Buckley is the main drag....when we were up there, back in 2010, our shuttle dropped us off right there at the main gate on Buckley, For those parking on base, it would be a different way (I believe you will turn right before the main gate). It is really easy to take a shuttle to PIR rather than drive. Sarge's shuttle is $3/pp each way....drops you off right there, picks you back up....for those staying at Navy Lodge, they have a new shuttle service and we were told it is just $2/roundtrip. They have 4 departure times in the morning starting at 6 a.m. and last one is at 7:30 a.m. You can ask about return times when you arrive, but normally the shuttles wait in a parking area near the gate.
