For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm sure I will have questions during pre-BUDS and onward. Actually, I guess I do have a couple right now? His recruiter told us that it is relatively recently that spec ops guys have their own division at RTC. Was this the case when yours was in boot camp? Also after pre-BUDS at Gl and before they head to Coronado, will he get leave?

Yes, All spec ops are in 800 divisions. My son was in 822. Seems like they go to a certain # then start over.
They will not get leave when leaving prebuds to Coronado. They all leave together on different flights throughout the day. He will still be in GL for the holidays, so he should be able to come home then. Instructors want to spend time with their families too. Otherwise as long as he keeps going it will be a long ways off before he can come home.

Thanks for starting this sjtina. I will have more questions as the weeks get closer. I have heard that the typical stay length at Pre-buds is 8-12 weeks. Has that changed at all? Thanks,

navywife it was 10 wks for my son, plus a extra week for the holidays. His class left right after New Years and their PIR was 10/8.

Yes, the spec ops guy he was working with during DEP told us he would be able to come over Christmas. I was so happy to hear that. I'm disappointed that he doesn't get leave before heading to Coronado, but good to know that now and not have been looking forward to it. While they are in Coronado, any opportunity to see him if we went out there or is that not possible either. During pre-BUDS do they get weekends off? Any opportunity to see him before he leaves GL (other than Christmas, I mean).

Yes he will have nights and weekends off. Unless he has watch and that rotates every weekend. You will know that schedule when he starts pre buds, then you can visit when he is off. Many moms visit right after hell week in Coronado which is 6 wks after they get there, otherwise they will be too busy to spend time with you. Well worth the trip if you can go then.

Something you may want to know is that the 800 Division BC will be slightly different than other divisions. They may only get 3 phone calls including the "Im Here" call, others will get them more frequently. Also the mental training that you may have heard when SEALs train will begin here.
The most important tip I can give you is please be careful what you post, at one point the instructors will come on here and if they can match you with your son or husband he will be singled out in front of everyone. Embarrassing for him, especially if his plan is to fly under the radar.

AZK if that is your son then its better if you change it. That is how my son got called on, I had his picture as my profile and they printed it out and showed it to him. This was on BootCampMoms group, I havent heard about them looking into these smaller groups or blogs.

Done, thank you. Yes his plan is definitely to fly under the radar. I've already mentioned to all who have asked for his address to make sure envelope/cards are non-descript, not musical, and actually used those exact same words "fly under the radar". Nothing to call attention to him in anyway.
