Hi,  everyone, my son left 9/23 as part of a group leaving from San Diego.  Well, I finally found out his ship and division last Friday after calling his recruiter.  Still haven't received the letter regarding PIR but assume it is 11/24 as 11/19 PIR has been posted and only goes through Division 004. Just wanted to talk to others and ask "Doesn't it seem like it has taken forever to get the information".  LOL.  Would love to talk to others with SR in this group.

wow, that hotel sounds really great! i will be doing my hotel research tomorrow! thanks for the info though and i do have a AAA card too, so that always helps!
We're coming from Orlando, FL to Great Lakes, and Southwest and Air Tran have some awesome 99$ each way fares - just bear in mind that Southwest doesn't charge for first bag per person, so that makes it the better deal for us over Air Tran. We were planning to stay at Navy Lodge, but we haven't heard yet if he'll be Grad and Go, so we don't want to reserve rooms for a long weekend if he's going to get gone Thursday night...
That's great you have good airfares right now. Southwest from L.A. wasn't that terrific, plus the flight times were weird for me - got me into Milwaukee at 11:15 pm at night and my rental company wasn't open that late. I think I would have booked Navy Lodge but my son looked at hotels before he left and voted for Springhill Suites. I think he was impressed by the shower - says he's going to take at least a 30 minute shower. lol
Hello!! Yes it did seem like forever. I contacted my sons recruiter and got his information. I really didn't think it would be this hard. My son is in Division 006 we are all very excited to get up there and see him. Have a safe trip up there.
hello my son is in 005. we are coming to the geaduation my sons first name is Justin he is going to be a hospital corpsman. we are staying at the hotel on the military base called the navy inn and suites. it sounds good but we will see when we get there you have to be active or retired millitary to stay there. but it is 55 dollars a night for a two room suite so he can have his own space, and we are also going to the meet and greet tuesday night. anything else going on can you please let me know. thank you Dorothy Justins mom
The cheapest i found in september when my son graduated was home wood suites , sleeps up to six it has kitchen and living room and separate bedroom. indoor pool and nice morning breakfast
Got a call last friday (11/12) afternoon about 4:30, they were getting information about lodging while we are there so they could turn in their liberty request. He said the division was in good spirits and seemed to be doing good. He stated that they were flagging most their training (flagging means they meet the requirements to carry a flag for a specific area of training i.e. inspections, academics, etc...), He also said they are trying to find places for all the recruits to go for the long weekend, if they could get all out of the barracks then they wont have to stand watch rotations which would mean that at some point in their weekend thay might have to report back to ship and stand a watch. So some of you may receive a request for a shipmate to stay with you over the weekend. I hope we can all help out our sailors by being willing to adopt a sailor for the thanksgiving weekend. My son said he was bringing someone with him, we said no problem. Hopefully he will enjoy his time away from bootcamp. We got phones he can use to call his family and a dinner to share. We are going to pack some extra stuff he can wear while away from bootcamp and in the room instead of his uniform. It sounds like they will be doing battlestations on Sunday (11/21) not 100% sure but if they do they may get a call after which could be late in the evening or early morning or they could wait till monday. Hopefully they all pass and get to call excited about receiving their ballcap.
