N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We just booked this: KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort Is 8 miles from Great Lakes Naval Base and they are running a two day special Nov 24-25 for $82 night + fee / tax This may be a great option for people with kids and a great place to hangout on Thanksgiving day with your Salior. Waterpark fees are included in the price of hotel and they are serving a Thanksgiving meal for a little extra. (This is a Tue / Wed special only)

Another suggestion is to go shopping with them after PIR and let them choose something.

Gift ideas:  Some like to give their new sailor a challenge coin in the name of their Bootcamp ship   www.pirgifts.com

Others have mentioned watches (we have heard that many like the Shock watches).  Some want to get them new phones, or laptops, etc.  It is just up to you!

Proud Navy Mom:  Any gifts you want you can bring them.  But if flying out, you need to meet your sailor at the airport....and make sure the gifts fit in their Navy luggage (or ship them to your sailor once in A School).  If staying in GL for A School, they can return to A School with them after Liberty.

What is the protocol on gifts at PIR.  Do we bring gifts?

Travelgirl.  Have no idea.  The areas around GL are Gurnee, Waukegan, Libertyville, etc.  You may have to googlemap the ones you are interested in.

MomJ0105 and Diannep for the information on the opentable link. Just one question, I don't know if I am looking at it wrong or don't know how to search, but it seems like it is giving neighborhood locations for the different restaurants. How do I know which areas are relatively close or easy to get to from the RTC area?

Thank you

jrpnavymom - I got a letter on Friday.  He basically said the same thing ("his" dog included).  Mine is definitely HOMESICK.  I write to him every day and attach pics to the letters.  I even sent him some stamps.  Not sure if he is getting the letters as you never know with the mail.  A Bible is safe.  No worries.  By the way, I sent you a friend request.  Keep me posted if you can!  I will do the same.

Gidget50 - he said it is tough, he's lonely and he misses everyone (including dogs and cats), but is working hard.  He said others are messing up on little things and that is "SO FRUSTRATING" his words not mine :).  He wants more letters, a few photos and a bible.  I sent him a very small bible Friday because he forgot to take one when shipping out.  I hope he gets it and gets to keep it and that I didn't get him in trouble.
