Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by ellen0502 on October 24, 2015 at 12:33pm: Phone calls are not a given except for the expected three. The "I am here", "I am still alive", and "I am a Sailor." Calls above those three calls are a privilege.

Calls can be granted and taken away for a number of reasons and it may or may not have anything to do with your SR. They can also be given at the "drop of a hat".

Look forward to a call at any time, but never expect a call!

Everywhere I read it says they get the "I'm still alive call" during week 3 which could actually be their week 4. So this week. Not sure though. Would love to hear my SR voice!

Comment by NavyDad on October 24, 2015 at 9:28am: Blessed Day for all. Myself and another mom with a SR in the same DIV have had calls the last two Sundays but both of our SR said it wouldn't but they probably wouldn't be able to call for another 2-3 weeks. Anybody know why?

Comment by Proudmom0105 on October 23, 2015 at 12:27pm: I found a restaurant open on Thanksgiving Day called Full Moon. Recommended by the Navy Lodge. They will provide a traditional dinner for free. Last year they fed over 3200 people! Talk about giving back to the community. In addition, this restaurant is open 24 hours. They will start serving Thanksgiving around 11 or 12 and stop when all the food is gone.

Comment by diannep on October 23, 2015 at 9:55am: It's still early for the PIR group so there is misbehaving going on with many. They get it together by graduation time......those who will not comply will either be setback or discharged.

Just remember, extra IT (Intensive Training) means they will be in even better physical shape! :-)
